does any accessible wysiwyg editors exist?

hello there

i'm a starter a drupal, and i'm getting used to it.

i got a question..
that is there any wysiwyg editors exist, that screen readers could work with them?
from my understanding, a wysiwyg editor is something that an user can easily use the mouse to drag and drop objects, make headings/lists, and the html code of it will pop out.

i have no experience with html, and i don't know how much hard it is.. or do i even have the time to learn it.

i have googled some.. and just found xStandard that could be accessible, but it seems that it is for drupal 6 only.

thanks for any help!

Take a look at CKEditor and TinyMCE.

CKEditor has some documentation of their accessibility features and an online demo.

TinyMCE also has accessibility information and a demo.

I would recommend the same

Even in my prior projects, i was using the earlier version of CK editor (FCK editor). I found it very inaccessible and hence tried out the newer version of CK editor (Accessible 1). Later when I had chance to go through wordpress, I found that Tiny MCE was also good

I haven't done an evaluation of either, but far too often these statements are more from marketing. It's rare for the accessibility statements to keep up with the releases and for there to be a decent body of people with accessibility knowledge who can effectively evaluate both the editing interface and the output.

At the moment, I'd say those to are the leading contenders, but would not personally claim that the most recent version of either were accessible.

True

Yeah, I wouldn't rely on vendor declarations either, but the online demos are a good way for hadi_gsf to see the possibilities.

I'm going to see if one of my screenreader-using colleagues has time to run through these, maybe make a screencast. If that works out, I will post it here.

thanks alot for the comments!

hi there

i have tryed both demos....
the CK editor, seem to be verry accessible, i could figure out most of features, and i could navigate in between the tools and edit window verry well.
although since i'm a 100% none-experienced user with html coding, i couldn't figure out that which is the editing and which is the output window.

i tryed tiny MCE but as soon as i opened up the demo page my screenreader (jaws13) got locked up. and i couldn't use the aeros to navigate.. instead i should have used the tab and shift tab to reach all links/edit boxes.
and i could just found a laggy field box, which seemed to be an output one but you could write on that.

i think i should proceed with CK editor, however i'm not sure if i should get the licensed version? or the free open source would do the trick.

thanks kindly all for your help.

More progress with CKEditor

Now that CKEditor has been incorporated in Core, there have been a few more enhancements.
