Fun times with Drupal in Halifax?

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Well, we just had our second meeting. There were only two of us present (Ryan and I) but this is great news as Ryan wasn't there for the first meeting.
Then, to follow - I was @ Carlito's on Quinpool the other morning and ran in to another Drupal dev I've been meaning to track down for a little bit (will be inviting him in to the group).

I had an idea. I'm not sure what you guys think about it, but I think it would be fun to get one idea together for something cool. A little widget or microsite - or some piece of functionality we've all thought about in a site. We plan it out over this service (or email which could be more private for planning).

Then the goal would be to plan a 4 hour (ish) code sprint to put whoever is interested together in a room and build out the functional bits in that period of time.

Then - when we've got our project together, we can take a little time afterwards to style it etc, but the idea would be to roll it out as a quick project to share.

An interesting idea perhaps?

Discuss :)

Cheers,

Adam

Sounds good to me. The good news with Drupal is we can build whatever we want.

Collaboration tools is something that interests me, or maybe build a social network, ...could do something with Ubercart...

what do you have on your mind?

On a side note... I bought a couple of Drupal Books last night.

I bought the using Drupal one by the lullabots and Pro Drupal Development for D6.

I figured the Using Drupal book would be just a Welcome to Drupal like book, but they cover a ton of different modules that i haven't used before. For $45, it's a must have. Pro Drupal Development is just a given that it would be a kick ass book.

Good stuff - on the books.

Good stuff - on the books. The Pro Dev book is stellar. Haven't checked out the other stuff yet, but I did get to share some conversation with John Van Dyk (author of Pro Dev book) at Drupalcon.

Are people still checking out this group? It would be cool to see what would work with peoples' schedules and see if meeting or a group project would be feasable.

Hope all is well!

ya, they're awesome. I have

ya, they're awesome. I have the first edition for D5 in ebook format, but didn't do much with it. Love module development, but still haven't had to do much myself. Views & CCK eliminate a lot of the need for custom dev. in the projects i've been working on lately.

As far as scheduling goes with me, i could devote a bit of time to a project... what do ya think you'd want to do? I'd like to see if we could get a may meet up going if possible...

Sorry I missed this one.
