It looks like our user group is growing and that's awesome! Based on what I heard around the room last night it seems like we have quite a few people that are relatively new to Drupal. This being the case I wanted to find out what interest level there was in doing some training on fundamental topics like Views, CCK, basic theming, etc.

Definitely count me in
Where do I sign up?! This is exactly what I need right now. I'll bring the doughnuts!
interested
I'm more of a recovering newbie--I've had my trial by fire and have the burn scars to prove it--but still have lots of questions (esp. about views). I'm sure I would benefit from the expertise of more seasoned pros, and would be happy to share what I've learned with those newbie-er than I.
Unfortunately, I can't make the regular wed. time due to another standing meeting, but if it's at another time I'd love to attend.
I was thinking about this,
I was thinking about this, too. It would be great to have on a Saturday in a half-day workshop type format. We could possibly host this sort of an event at CM with a very small group (less than 10 "students") and maybe take donations to fund a lunch spread.
There are also plans in the works for a DrupalCamp in Atlanta this summer. I'll keep everyone posted when I learn more about that.
I might also
I might also be able to host 10-12 people on a Saturday. I have to be there though. There is a conference room is accessible without a door code. It has a conference table with about 8 outlets in it as well as the ability to get to the net via Ethernet cables. It is on Ellis road Durham, NC on the other side of the highway from Glaxo. 2202 Ellis, Durham, NC, exit 8 off 147
If we grow much more, CM will be too small for regular meetings.
Saturday works for me
I'd be willing to do help out with a bootcamp session on a Saturday assuming the time & location works for everyone else. If we can pencil something in for the end of the month that would be awesome.
The earliest I could do
The earliest I could do anything on a weekend is Sat. May 16th :-\
Sounds like a good idea
My earliest is May 16th too. Carrboro Co-Working may be another option for a location.
PopSci.com and Drupal
I knew that their website was a drupal site. I took it upon myself to see if there was even a slight chance we could get to talk to one of them. I got the following response....
Hi David,
My name is Andy Vance -- I'm lead developer on popsci.com. One of our editors forwarded your email to me. Unfortunately I can't do a live interview but if you'd like to send me a list of questions I'd be happy to answer them. We've encountered quite a few interesting issues while scaling drupal to our needs. Hopefully it would make for interesting reading.
For some background I've been lead on popsci.com for almost a year now. In that time we've done a lot of performance and scalability work. We also created a localized version of the site for australia (popsci.com.au) with shared content using table prefixing. I haven't done much open source drupal work but I did just recently release a module to integrate amazon's cloudfront cdn with imagecache (http://drupal.org/project/cloudfront).
Thanks for your interest in the site,
Andy Vance
I'm interested too
Although Saturday clashes with dog-training, but one time won't hurt, if Saturday fits with everyone else.
Bootcamp Curriculum
I'm still not sure when we will be able to have a Bootcamp (this will take far more planning than our usual meetups, hopefully we can do it sometime this summer), but unless anyone needs my help tonight at Hack Night, I will be working on a Curriculum/Framework/Plan for a half-day Drupal BootCamp. If you have any ideas, please join me! Whatever I come up with I will post here as a Wiki.
Hack Night on Wednesday?
I thought hack night was tomorrow?
I totally meant to type
I totally meant to type "tomorrow night" instead of "tonight" :)
sorry!
