Drupal Interface Translation to Oriya Language

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi,

I have started translation of Drupal interface to Oriya language . This will be for Drupal 6.x versions.

I have almost done with the translation of 'node', 'block' and 'user' module strings. Few other module are translated partially.
Now I want to create a project page for this language at drupal.org. I was about to apply for a CVS account but stopped by reading some statements in this page, Apply for contributions CVS access

It says,

If you wish to contribute translations then please first use the project issues queues to submit a couple of translations before applying for a CVS account. In that way your first contributions can be reviewed.

Now if I create an issue at http://drupal.org/node/add/project-issue , then I need to choose the project name to proceed. Since my project does not exist in this list yet, under which project , I can create my issue and upload my current translated files for review!!!

I hope, anyone who have already gone through this process can help me out.

Please help.

Hi Ipsita, Since the project

Hi Ipsita,

Since the project does not exist yet, i advise that you request a CVS account so you can create the project yourself.

I also recommend that you read Technical background on interface translations before you submit your translation.

Hi houndbee, Thanks for the

Hi houndbee,

Thanks for the support. Before starting the translation, I have read a bunch of documents about drupal translation including the one you have suggested.

Let me apply for the CSV account then, I hope it will not be rejected.
Actually I found the statements made on "CVS application guidelines" page a bit daunting.
So thought to seek advice before my application gets rejected. ;)

Thank you again,

Ipsita

Great!!

Great to know that you successfully started translating drupal in Oriya. Having stayed in the state for 4 years, i just might be able to read the language ;)

Well I would suggest that you post the translations in an issue under Drupal project itself. I have not done that myself before but am sure that would be the right place.

Nice to know that people are

Nice to know that people are interested to see the Oriya interface for Drupal.

You can check the translations done so far here http://simplyipsita.com/drupal-l10n-server , shortly.

I think you should talk to

I think you should talk to Abhishek nagar who is currently working on hindi and marathi and has a localization server setup. Localization also allows you to share translations with a central server.

Dipen,

Thanks for the encouragement.

I have already setup a localization server here http://simplyipsita.com/drupal-l10n-server

Yesterday only I did this. The translated files are not yet up and hence you can't find any translation there at the moment. Time issue. :)

Hopefully, in next 24 hour you can check the updated status of Oriya translation on this server.

Hi,

abhisheknagar's picture

Good to know people are working for Indian Languages i would suggest the following

1) Visit http://drupal.org/project/l10n_server and get your work listed so that more people can contribute.
2) Apply for CVS
3) Start a Project and atleast do an initial commit.
4) How the users/contributors will type Oriya do you have some module which you are using if not visit http://drupal.org/project/gamabhana_drupal this will help in typing directly in drupal

Hi,

Thanks to all for support.

Just an update. I got my CVS account and created the project page http://drupal.org/project/or
I have some conflict between the localization server version of translation and the .po verison . Trying to merge both and then will commit it to CVS repo.

Good news is that, few more people joined the team and really contributing well to the project. :)

The names of Team members is listed on the Oriya Localization server

@Abhishek: Thank you Abhishek for your quick response and pointing towards the right direction.

Cheers,

Hi ipsita,

I want to do the same for the Amharic Translation I have been working on. What exactly did you do to get the CVS account and how did you setup the project page. A small step by step would really help. Thanks.

Nice to know about your

Nice to know about your work.

You may like to read my blog article which I had wrote at the beginning of my project.

I want to do the same for the Amharic Translation I have been working on.

As you mentioned you have already started your work, I think you must be having few module .po files with some translated strings. To apply for an CVS account , create a project issues queues to submit a couple of translations for verification. Se my issue queue page. When I applied for the CVS account , I gave a link to this page so that the moderator can check my work. I got my CVS account approval within 2 hours. (That was the happiest moment for me :) )

...and how did you setup the project page.

To create my project page I followed the instructions mentioned here Step-by-step: Create a CVS project

If you have any more question, feel free to write.
I would be glad to help you.

Cheers,
Ipsita
