Hello everyone,

It was really awesome to meet the lot of you last week. There's a lot of great Drupal energy between us all, and I hope we've all been able to learn at least a little bit by bouncing ideas and thoughts off of each other.

We were able to follow the outline of proposed talks pretty well even though we weren't able to get to it all. I'd like to leave a review of the meeting here for those of us who'd like to checkback and for those of us who weren't able to make it. Then hopefully we can start planning our next meetup.

Firstly, we had a great turn out, eight of us in total!

We were only able to squeeze in two talks by David and I, Mahesh offered to save his presentation for next time since it was already getting so late.

  • Omega Base theme, slides: https://docs.google.com/presentation/pub?id=1mAGiffXcEQJwwwbWrRHT6up7KLD...
I spoke a little bit about Omega for responsive design. A little bit of why, a little bit of how, and had a great therapy session at the end where I talked about responsive design's shortcomings.

  • Features and install profiles, slides to come
David spoke about the workflow of features and how they address a lot of the cumbersome issues some of us encounter in development. Specifically how features help move everything to code, including configuration, so that we can better track our development via git and stop pushing entire databases up and down stream.

We had a few impromptu lightning rounds, mostly in the beginning as we introduced ourselves, this might be new content for the few of you that made it a little later:
- Jvitello gave a great overview of some of Drupal's history in the capital region, who some of the players are, as well as some possible advancements where the AG may also be going the route of Drupal

  • We all spoke a little bit about Drush and how useful/fast it is (drush might be a great 20 minute talk for a future meetup if some one's looking for a topic)

  • We all spoke a little bit about how we use Drupal at our jobs.

If anyone else has more review information (especially notes or specifics) please post them! In the future I'll try to get reviews up much faster so I don't lose so much of the great information covered while posting.

At the end of the meeting I think I got the sense that we were all okay with doing monthly meetups for now while the energy is still going. Late march or early April would work for me, and I'm okay with where ever we want to meet. We have a good mix of people from RPI and Saratoga all the way down to Albany, so hopefully we can find a place everyone's comfortable with getting to.

Thanks again for an awesome meetup, you all rock.

Patrick

So, what are the plans for future meetups? Can we squeeze one in this month, or sometime early April?

Selfishly, I rather like the same location as last time. Seeing how I live extremely close.

Friday 13th works for me, although I prefer Thursdays in general. If you want to meet at the same location - let me know and I will reserve a room.

Union works for me as well,

Union works for me as well, but I can't help but feel guilty that it's so close by for me.

Since no one else made a bid

Since no one else made a bid on where to have it, let's set up the event and plan to have it at Union again on the second friday of April (13th). Let's keep this thing going :)

Will you set up the event Mahesh?

Thanks again for securing the room Topazzz. That was my first time at Union, it's a beautiful school.

Features & Installation Profiles Slides

Apologies for being out of the loop since this meeting - there was a perfect storm of teaching, consulting, and $personal_stuff on top of my 9-5 that left me otherwise dead to the Web for a bit. For those interested, here are the slides from my presentation on Features and Install Profiles:

Many thanks to all who made this happen! Looking forward to many more, especially now that I have a moment to breathe again. :>
