Ubercart.
I have implemented Ubercart on more than one site. Also, have a couple of buddies that have done 3-4 setups.
I love it. It's weak on modules for higher-end discounting and promo codes etc...but it works great.
I had to tweak the checkout and each additional commerce based module we installed but in the end it is working out nicely.
When I say tweak, it was more to make it fit my liking. Not to make it work, Ubercart worked fine right out of the box.

Just joined this group. I've used ubercart recently for a website with eBooks you can download... the only problem I have is getting double emails with the download link and the site owner gets double emails about the purchase. I've looked on their forum for a fix, but one person that said they figured out, and it didn't work for me... I think I'll try it again soon with a clear head.

I haven't done anything with downloadable content. All the sites that I have ubercart running on are shippable products. I have not encountered this problem with the double emails either.
btw, what version of ubercart and drupal would help people help you.l
