- Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a program that offers student developers stipends ($5000 per accepted developer) to write code for various open source projects.
- Google Highly Open Participation Contest (GHOP) - An initiative to get pre-university students involved in open source software development. Tasks range from improvements to code base, marketing materials, documentation and user experience research.
- Knight Drupal Initiative (KDI) - Knight Foundation is working with the Drupal community to enable more people to enter the digital conversation by lowering the technical barriers to entry; provide powerful tools for digital publication, free and open to all; encourage people to improve their communities by supporting the free exchange of information and ideas.

- Drupal.org redesign code sprints - a series of sprints to help push the drupal.org redesign closer to completion

- Fields in Drupal core code sprint - 5-day Fields in Drupal core code sprint at Acquia! The goal is to get CCK functionality into Drupal 7. Raised $5682.36
