I have some Drupal 7 architecture "cases" or "problems" to present at the next MADDUG meeting.
Can we meet again at 5:30 PM CST, Wednesday, April 4? How about Essen Haus in Madison for a venue? We could have some din-din, discuss these Drupal architecture cases/problems, and have a grand ol' time. If you don't like the date/time, feel free to suggest another. I'm flexible! First round of Hacker-Pschorr (or your favorite beer or soft drink) is on me!
Here's a preview of the Drupal 7 cases I would like to discuss...
CASE #1: What are some preferred configurations of content types, blocks/panels, custom hooks, and whatever else is necessary in order to allow content editors to create their own "blocks." When I say blocks, I'm referring to any block-like approach, which can also be done with nodes, involve panels instead of blocks, etc. In this use case, the content editors not only need to be able to create their own "blocks," but they also need to be able to see only their blocks in the admin. This could possibly be mostly accomplished with Workbench Access, as we're already using that. Another very important requirement is that editors must be able to select their "blocks" on a page-by-page basis, so each page/node might display a different collection of "blocks" in the right side region. Editors also need the ability to configure the sort order of the "blocks." Ideally this would all be done with a field group in a content type that allows unlimited items. ...like select a block, and another, and another, and for each block assign a weight for sorting. The whole idea behind this case is that we don't want editors to have to monkey around in the blocks admin, mess around with URL paths, etc. We want click, click, click...
CASE #2: Given an HTML5/CSS prototype that I will demonstrate, what is the best way to use Omega or AdaptiveTheme to morph the design into a mobile version when the browser is on a mobile device like iPhone, Android, etc?
CASE #3: Content editors want a WYSIWYG editor that allows them to upload their own media, like PDFs, images, and they only want to wade through their media. They don't want to have to dig through a long list of directories, nor do they want other departments to have access to their directories. This is for a large organization with 100+ content sections. What are the best approaches for this these days using a combination of WYSIWYG and other modules/techniques?
That's it! Are you up for the challenge? ...or would you like to hang out and listen so you can apply the recommendations to your own project? Let's have a MADDUG and talk about it!
Thoughts?
Thanks,
John (TheSasquatch)

SASS spill-over from last meet-up?
What about covering the SASS stuff that we missed from our last meet-up?
After attending a handful of SASS/Compass sessions at DrupalCon Denver I'm quite excited about using SASS and Compass in my upcoming projects. I can show my local dev site and how I set it up (thanks again Craig J.!).
Would anyone else like to include this on the agenda?

Projector?
I'd love to see a SASSy demo, but that sounds like that might need a projector (vs. over dinner).
Regarding John's questions, I haven't actually ever needed to solve any of these problems on one of my sites because we don't have content creators with that much access granted. Have you considered asking the wider Drupal community for suggestions on IRC?
Case #1 sounds like Panels. Case #2 is something I don't know anything about but we'll be exploring it in the coming months (and there was an entire track on mobile at Denver so I recommend checking out those videos). For #3, have you explored the Media module and integration modules like http://drupal.org/project/workbench_media?
I personally would love a more chill/social dinner
...and then get back to some technical stuff next month. Denver was pretty exhausting so I'd just love to just hang out and chat about the conference, maybe share experiences for those who weren't there, etc. And we could do SASS in May?
Social on April 4th sounds
Social on April 4th sounds good to me. And we can def do the SASS at the beginning of May.

Social is fine
A more social event is fine with me. Since I originally posted, I've got some new direction regarding the issues I raised. I think I have solutions.
xjm, yes, I try all the Drupal community resources to get questions like these answered. I usually have very good luck with IRC, Drupal Answers, Drupal.org discussions, etc. But these issues (except mobile) have been hard to get answers for some reasons. But I think I'm finally on track. Maybe at a future MADUG I'll fill everyone in on what we end up doing to solve these problems.
And thanks for the tip on Workbench Media. I kind of forgot about that one because it used to have a conspicuous cautionary notice on its page at drupal.org that gave me the impression it was half-backed, and then I just kind of forgot about it after that. I'm going to give it a try.
So it sounds like April 4 at 5:30PM works pretty well. Anything else that can be done to promote it, make the date/time official, etc? I'm normally not involved in planning these sorts of things.
Thanks,
John
I generally make an event post with the date/time
There should be a "Create Event" link in the sidebar for the group.
Create Event
One of you more senior MADUG peeps should create the event to draw more attendees. The username of the creator lends credibility to the event. :) ...as opposed to an event created by "TheSasquatch." :)
There is no such thing as
There is no such thing as "senior MadDUG peeps." :P Be brave!
Unless...
Unless you're calling one of the group members "old"
:P
OK Fine :P

Thank you!
Thanks for creating the event! I tried to do it myself after your previous post, but apparently groups.drupal.org was not feeling well at the time. When I tried to create the event, I was just returned to the same form, only blank. Then I couldn't even access the group anymore. "Access denied." ...even after logging out and logging back in several times. So thanks for getting it done. Groups.drupal.org seems to be feeling better now.
I posted a little more info in a comment under the event.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
Thanks,
John
