tuesday or thursday evenings
tuesday or thursday evenings are cool with me.
i was talking with trevor_morse on twitter and he was interested in a generic php user group. i'm cool with the idea of having a strong drupal user group as well as a strong php user group which could also attract some more skilled people to collaborate.
whatever works for the local community is cool with me.
i don't have any ideas for a venue... but rooms aren't hard to come by if someone has an LCD projector...
tuesday or thursday evenings
Hi Guys,
I am interested in coming out to the next meeting.
I don't have much Drupal knowledge at the moment, but am definitely interested in learning more. As well as discussing the possibility of a PHP users group.
Tuesdays or Thursdays work for me as well...as long as it's not next week(18th-22nd) as I am in Chicago for PHPTek.
tuesday or thursday evenings
As I may have mentioned before I am willing to attend, but I'm still a very entry level Drupal user, so it would be good to get some input and inspiration. Has anyone thought of the Hub on Barrington St. as a venue? I expect someone would need a membership, however.
@FakeDSearancke
that's cool. we need all
that's cool. we need all people of varying skill levels to come out.
what's the damage to use the Hub?
This is all good news. I
This is all good news. I have an office in a really good location in Halifax and have Wifi and some whiteboards etc. It's no major setup, but it works as a free and available alternative.
Would be cool to get some stuff going.
Keep the posts rolling!
Cheers

Hi Everyone, I'm back from php|tek which was an awesome conference and would love to get together with everyone. Anyone interested in the next couple of weeks?
Drupal meeting
Hi folks,
We are switching our corporate site over to Drupal and I need to learn it. I've played around with a couple of online demos and it looks interesting. Definitely different than other CMSs. I hear the NS Gov't uses it for a number of sites.
I'm interested in attending a user group. Tuesday or Thursday evenings would be fine with me. I'll just throw a date out here: what about Thursday July 2, say 7:00 pm?
Thanks
Barry
Hi Barry, Noticed you're at
Hi Barry,
Noticed you're at the IWK. I'm over at Capital Health and there is at least one site i know for fact that is using Drupal in the NS gov which would be the new Renal Clinic website. http://www.nsrp.gov.ns.ca/
we at capital health have been evaluating various CMS' for awhile now, and Drupal is one that is near the top of the list for us for the rebuild of our website (top of mine)...
Anyway, nice to meet ya.

Drupal in NS government
Hi Ryan,
Interesting that you know about the Renal Program. I suppose you would working at Capital Health. I work with the Reproductive Care Program which is also a provincial program of the DOH along with others (see list at http://www.gov.ns.ca/health/provincial_programs.asp). The provincial programs get together periodically to discuss IM/IT issues -- we're meeting Friday in the Bethune Building as it happens so I'll probably run into the RP folks.
In terms of our CMS, we were offered the choice to go with MS Sharepoint or Drupal and chose the latter for it's relative simplicity and to avoid being locked into an MS solution. Plus we had heard that other groups in the gov't were having success with Drupal.
Hope to meet you and others in this group in the near future.
Barry
Interesting dilemma between
Interesting dilemma between Sharepoint and Drupal... we've been doing the same analysis and i can't figure out any reason yet that we would choose Sharepoint over Drupal.
Do you know what other sites in the gov't have been built on drupal? this would really help give me a leg up on the business case for Drupal at Capital Health.
Hey Ryan, I asked my contact
Hey Ryan,
I asked my contact at DOH about Drupal sites in the NS government. She was not aware of any that were public yet. They use it mostly for their Intranet. She did find this one:
http://www.novascotiaimmigration.com
and I found an RFP related to work on the same site which asks for Drupal experience:

I am going get in touch with someone at Corporate IT Operations (Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal) as I believe they have a few Drupal projects on the go there.

So is the next meeting going
So is the next meeting going to be July 2nd? or do we want to wait until the following week. if we're going to meet, it would be also a good idea to figure out what we'll be discussing at the meeting.
July 2 or July 9?
July 2 or July 9 at 7pm.
Can we use the polling feature to decide? Not sure how this works. Do you put up the poll first or post the event and see who responds? What about a place? If nimzie is willing to host again, great. Otherwise, I can scout around for a room in central Hfx.
I just added the poll to the
I just added the poll to the group homepage. Happy voting!
I'll be back on PEI by this
I'll be back on PEI by this point and would be interested in taking part in a July 9th Drupal Meetup. For those willing to make the trek to Charlottetown, I hope to organize a meetup there sometime during the month of July as well!
Cheers

I'd be able to supply the
I'd be able to supply the space for a meeting - my office is pretty informal, but hey- it's just a meeting!
At this point, I'm pretty sure July 9 works. I assume 7pm would work for people?
Before I do any scheduling of time, I'd like to get a feel for participation. Let's try and rally up a few people for this.
Cheers,
adam

If we're on for Thursday, we'll be 3 from PEI at least. Hopefully we can formalize some plans today sometime.
Ideas for agenda
Hi all,
Here are few ideas I had for the meetup, in no particular order:
Hope this helps,
Barry
I'm sure we'll have plenty
I'm sure we'll have plenty to discuss. We do meet-ups once a month in Montreal and we're never short on things to discuss.
So.. is this on?
Hey Guys, i'm gonna have to
Hey Guys, i'm gonna have to back out tomorrow. A client of mine Dave Carroll, has the most watched video on youtube Canada right now and it's driving insane amounts of traffic to the site and keeping me on my toes. it's been an insane 24 hours so far... check out youtube for United Breaks Guitars.
I am still in...
I am still interested, no matter what.
Follow up from July 9 meetup
Hi all,
Just to let everyone know, a meetup took place, as planned, last Thursday July 9 at 7pm. Four people showed up and chatted outside while waiting for others. At 7:30, three of us went across the street to the Armview Restaurant, ordered beer and shared some great conversation about Drupal, web programming, business, and other topics.
I think there was some uncertainty about the location and whether or not the meetup was actually happening. Let's work on getting the communication clearer for next time.
Hope everyone is having a good summer and finding some time to enjoy the local events.
Barry
Aug./Sept. Meet-up?
Ok - admittedly I have been rather absent from previous meet-ups, but I would like to attend the next event ... even if we just met at the Armview and drank a few beers and chatted, that would be a good start for me!
