I go every year to the Ohio Linux Fest. Its a great open source conference where you can make a lot of great contacts in the open source world.
But, last year I thought maybe there would be some talks on Drupal. There was one, by a person that didn't know a lot about Drupal.
A Call to Arms!
I am going to this. I am also thinking about talking about Drupal. I think that we with the Ohio and other groups in the area, should get together and have a table. Maybe we could get Acquia to sponsor in some sort? Maybe we could get some more drupal talks....
It is on Sept 25-26 (Sept 25 is the paid portion) http://www.ohiolinux.org/

A talk
I would certainly be interested in a presentation, if you want a collaborator.
On the table what kind of hours are we talking about?
Usually the talks are .5 - 1
Usually the talks are .5 - 1 hr. Usually it starts at 8 or 9 and then ends at 5ish with an after party that goes until around 1ish...sometimes leading to other get togethers.
Another option is having a BoF session. Maybe a continuation of both if people are interested.

Presentation
I was thinking maybe a real basic Drupal presentation. Maybe showing a full drupal install from start to finish, explaining as we go along. Showing the modules we install, and why we use them.
Maybe a secondary talk would be a more advanced talk. Related to actually coding for drupal. (I have little to no experience in this, but would be willing to help). and how to get involved in the community.

Submitted 3 sessions proposals
I submitted three session proposals via the interface at http://www.ohiolinux.org/ which is a Drupal site by the way!
The three I submitted were:
Intro to Drupal
CCK + Views
Drupal Theming
If the sessions are only 30min OR 1hr, then I will want to split up the CCK and the VIEWS presentations into unique sessions.
Go ahead and submit your proposals. The more the better. As the dust settles from all of the submissions, we can consider teaming up and strategizing if need be.
I'm really looking forward to the OhioLinuxFest. Any chance to spread Drupal goodness is a chance we should take.
If we choose to have a table, I can bring my Drupal banner as featured at the www.indybang.org event Nov 22 2008. See blog post and photos here: http://dougvann.com/blogs/dougvann/08-11-30/drupal-booth-indy-business-a...
Who's with Seth and I on having a table?

Great job guys
I'm not yet at a place where I could present Drupal, but I would definitely attend any sessions you present! All 3 of DougVann's proposals sound interesting to me, I'd love to see them all.
Even if you don't feel like
Even if you don't feel like you can present on Drupal. If we do get a table, just having a person that is enthusiastic about Drupal, and able to talk to people is great. We will probably just set up a couple computers and display different drupal sites (although we may just have to create a couple cookie cutter sites - depending on internet access)

Cool
Awesome Doug! I just put in a proposal for a session on how to give back to drupal/open source. Maybe we can split this between a couple people since it is such a broad topic.
The actual times may vary. Might try hitting up the team with a question about the exact times of the sessions.

One more thing
Looks like it will cost $75 for a table. More if we wanted drupal more prominently placed...
Link to sponsorship page (which includes a table):
http://ohiolinux.org/sponsor-application.html
Doug do you know if we could get a sponsor for this??? Or could you give me some contacts? I might check with Volacci, and maybe the commerce guys to see if they would be willing to send some swag...

Count Me In
I'd be glad to help with anything above. Let me know where I would be more useful as the time draws nearer.

CiviCRM
Submitted a proposal today for a CiviCRM session
I want to see that one!
I've played around with CiviCRM. I even considered it for a prospective client once.
I'd LOVE to learn more about it!

Got the application for a
Got the application for a table at OLF. I'll get it filled out and sent back, so if nothing else we will have a place to show off drupal.
I'm not sure when the speakers will be announced, but it should be fairly soon. You can now register.

Table is reserved
I have a table reserved and electricity ready for us. As the time draws near maybe those of us in Indiana can get together and perhaps include those in Ohio via skype or something of that nature. To iron out what should be on the table - what presentations are being presented, etc. We will also need to develop a schedule of people attending that would be willing to man the table so two people don't have to sit at the table all day if they don't want to. If two people want to - sweet - but I think at least a BoF session with drupal would be a great way to show our presence.
I'm not sure if we can get swag from drupal shops....I figured at the very least maybe printing out some drupal "cheat sheets" that we can hand out - maybe with a list of local shops/individuals that use drupal. Maybe even having other relevant "cheat sheets" available (ie php, css, jquery).

Etherpad Wiki for this discussion.
Please visit http://etherpad.com/iALSsyPwUR to view a nifty APP I often use for collaborative projects like this.
Etherpad allows us to be on the same page at the same time while we edit it. All changes are real time and a snapshot of any instance of the page can be stored for later review OR restoration.
Users text entries are color coded and the color key is to the upper right of the page.
I have placed a schedule for the Friday portion of the event.
Please add your name. when you're available, notes, and comments to the post.
Pop in, take a look. http://etherpad.com/iALSsyPwUR
More about why use Drupal
It would also be good to put out something on why people should use Drupal and maybe an FAQ. Much of which can be poached from the site.

Talks
Ok, has anyone else heard if there talks were accepted or not for OLF? Mine was not, so if no talks were accepted we may go the BoF route.

Schedule Posted
The schedule has been posted. And no drupal talks were selected...but no fear....BoF's are in our future. If you are still interested in at least manning the booth reply here. Even without Drupal talks this is a worth while conference to attend.
Is there a time we can maybe skype or something to get details ironed out?

I can't believe they use
I can't believe they use Drupal for their site, yet don't want to talk about it at all. Drupal is way more interesting (IMO) than some of the other topics that were chosen... oh well.
I may go Saturday morning to hear Dr. Alex Bandar's presentation, he's a friend of mine.
Booth
I'm planning to be at OLF all day Saturday 2009.09.26, and could attend the booth for a few hours.
Awesome
Appreciate the help!!

I will be presenting the Drupal Kickstart session
I was on a waiting list for presenters and the wait is over. My Drupal Kickstart session was accepted!
I don't have the details yet, but I believe I will have 55minutes to take ppl from ZERO to Drupal lightspeed!
Wish me luck!
Congrats Doug, that's great!
Please let us know what time so I can be sure to make it. Would've been a helpful presentation to see, oh-- say 6 months ago? :-)

I can take the table for an hour or two

I'm still new to Drupal, but
I'm still new to Drupal, but can help at the table too. I signed up at that file that was posted awhile ago. If you want handouts, I could probably print some. Let me know which ones would be best.

Apparently there will be
Apparently there will be internet access on Friday when they have the classes, but not on Saturday.
My husband is on the staff for Linux Fest, and I asked about more Drupal classes, but they have limited space, not sure it will happen.
I could bring a 20 inch flat screen, if it would be useful. I'll have my iBook, but its an older G4 and not fast.

Awesome. If you want to
Awesome. If you want to bring your 20 in monitor that would be epic. I may look into have a BoF session where people having drupal issues can ask and hopefully get them answered or at least pointed in the right direction.
It sounds like we got a little bit of swag to pass out. I got T's from volacci, and stickers coming from mustard seed media...I believe Doug has some stuff as well, so even if you can't work the booth be sure to say hi and hang out for a little bit.....
