Looking at rule sets, they appear to be conceptually cool, but damned if I can figure out how to actually get them to do anything.
What I would have expected from the description is that:
- You define a rule set (effectively writing a subroutine).
- You then connect that rule set with an event trigger of some kind.
- When the even happens, the rule set gets triggered.
But that doesn't seem to be the way it works.
I've installed rules, created a rule set and would love to figure out how to trigger the thing. Pointers to the right place in the documentation would be acceptable (or a quick explanation).
I can get the same effect through multiple rules, but that's kind of like programming a neural net. If you don't get everything absolutely in the right order, strange things can happen.
Or are rule sets really, really just for scheduling and not for "interactive" use?
