Poll Images

Hey everybody,

Here are the images associated with this poll:

Only local images are allowed.

In most cases, these are not the final version of each logo. Rather than as our community designers to spend a lot of time polishing their designs, it is probably a good idea to settle on something first. Please do not discount designs that are still sketches or obviously unfinished.

Please keep in mind the following:

  1. I figured that in order to be as democratic as possible, we should include as many options for voting as possible. We'll most likely have a couple of rounds of run-offs.
  2. This poll will be open for 2 weeks.
  3. Keep in mind that the winning logo will need to be licensed under the GPL if it includes a variation on the Drupalicon.

Thanks,
-mike

hard to pick only one

I guess it is a good problem to have so many good ideas.

Logo image licensing and copyright

ultimike's picture

We've had a couple of questions come up regarding the copyright and licensing of both submitted and (the eventual) selected logos.

I'm not an attorney (by any stretch), but once I post this comment, I plan on asking one to chime in.

I think the best way forward is probably to have the logo licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later (GPL), just like the Druplicon logo. This means that people are free to download, modify, reuse, and distribute the logo.

Regarding the copyright, the designer of the logo will retain copyright on design, but agree to release it under the GPL.

So the question remains: how do we give credit to the designer for their work? Perhaps we can create a new tab on http://groups.drupal.org/florida (like the current "Florida DrupalCamp 2012" tab) that links to the "official" download page for the logo as well as copyright, credit, and license information (like the Drupalicon logo download page).

Thoughts?

Thanks,
-mike

Cool logos! I definitely

Cool logos! I definitely think we need a run-off election for the top 2-5 or so

Great logo designs

All of them are great.

Coming from a college that has a conquistador mascot, just remember that the legacy of conquistadors and the meaning of a conquistador symbol is problematic for many.

Flamingo of Doom

I'm actually very surprised that the "Flamingo of Doom" has no votes so far!!

No love for the Flamingo... OF DOOOOOOM? :)

The city design is nice. But,

greta_drupal's picture

The city design is nice. But, in my opinion, I'd rather the Druplicon not stray so much from the original -- retain the same nose & mouth. Really no conceptual advantage to changing that, IMO.

Oh, that wave?

greta_drupal's picture

D'oh! Didn't realize that was the wave concept design you were submitting (I had psoted several). Didn't realize anyone liked it! Wasn't any discussion about it. I would have tried to brand it more.

Anyway, in its simplicity as is, here it is adjusted to look a bit more like a cresting wave:

Only local images are allowed.

All great ideas/designs!

I think all of the designs are great. I really do like the conquistador -- think it is only a matter of appropriateness and relatability, as another poster noted. I think that one should be posted to a Spain Drupal group for their consideration. :-)

Florida is the Sunshine State

dtesenair's picture

These are all fantastic ideas and it's hard to pick one based the artistry alone. Excellent job on all of the ideas.

Since we're the Sunshine State, however, I like Drupal Sun 1... with the exception of the 'Japanese flag' in the background (it detracts from the 'drop' shape and overall effect). Love the sunglasses!!! Perhaps an merge of that shape and concept with Drupal Orange? Just my humble 2¢.

Awesome job!

First, you guys did a great job on these! Florida is multi-faceted state, so I think we're all having trouble tying it down to just one theme. ;-)

Being a 3rd generation Florida native, I think Florida = sun, lakes, oranges, beaches, NASA, tourists, (and Mickey...but let's not go there....)

I really like the Drupal Wave and Drupal City. Is there any way that we can combine the two? Have the wave surround the city logo, while (as suggested above) reverting the Drupal logo back to its original form?

While we're in agreement that the conquistador is probably not "politically correct", it really isn't the first thing (or even fifth thing) people think of when they think of Florida. It would be great for a St. Augustine local group, though.

Lastly -- the Drupal shark is awesome and the Drupal Moon is really good "Florida" thinking. How about incorporating a rocket or space shuttle in the city logo? (maybe having it blasting off vertically?). And throw a gator and a flamingo in there somewhere for good measure (since it's just that easy, right?)

....it's so easy when your a techie nerd and have no design skills....sorry, my artistic brethren (and sistren?)

All good designs BUT

alternatecloud's picture

The "DIVER" will win because we all "dive" into Drupal tasks...I know, corny!
It made sense to me at the time of voting...Although, I did like the shark at first, but then I decided I was too afraid of them to want to always be looking at it.

My vote goes to the diver.
