New SEO Friend Module

My new SEO Friend modules is available at:

The module is meant to be used with other Drupal SEO modules, particularly (for now) nodewords, nodewords_bypath, page_title, and pathauto.

I would love feedback and suggestions for new features.

i appreciate the effort to supply another module, but i can't see how that differs enough from the other two module to have a third seo module. sure there are differences, but these modules follow the same objection.
so instead of confusing the user which module is the best and having 2 or 3 abandoned modules in some years, i would advise to merge them all to one very strong and well maintained module.

Yes, I understand why you'd prefer to have them consolidated. I was working on this module before the seo_checker module came out, so they both ended up coming out about the same time. I'm not sure what plans they have for that one but I would consider joining forces if the were up for it.

As for the seo_checklist module, it's just a checklist that you would use once per site and then you could turn it off. I don't think they would want to consolidate because their module is heavily "branded" (the company sponsoring has things like "check this box to link to our site" and "check this box to send us an email"). But, if they were willing to let me roll in their code into my module, I'd be willing to do it.

This is really the problem with all drupal modules. It's often much easier to just write a new module than to try to deal with working with others will similar ideas. Wouldn't it be nice to install one SEO module that had:

pathauto
globalredirect
path_redirect
nodewords
etc

all together?? This would save a lot of headache.

Perhaps once I've updated SEO friend with some of my latest features, I will try contacting the other seo_checklist & seo_checker module owners to see their thoughts.

I think it's good to have them separate because in some scenarios you don't want all of them. For example -- no Global Redirect on multi-language sites.

From my memory, I think globalredirect works fine on multilingual sites. What issue did you have?

For me, I always install a certain set of modules. It would be nice if a lot of those made it into drupal 7 so at least I wouldn't have to download separately.

I've had to disable Global Redirect on a Korean/English site once, but I'm not sure what the current status is.

Multilingual sites should thoroughly check their site after enabling this module. There have previously been known issues with i18n causing redirect-loops and such. I believe these have been fixed, but please take care.

I contacted the SEO Checklist guys (Volacci) and they don't want to combine their checklist with my module as they have some new functionality coming up that they are going to be releasing soon. I haven't talked to the SEO Checker maintainer yet.

Hi there,

I'm not generally against merging projects if it makes sense. There are a lot of modules out there that could and should be merged. In this case however I don't know if this is a good idea as our modules don't do the same thing. Still, if anybody wants to join the development of the SEO Checker, let me know. It is yet a very small module with very few and not so powerful rules but I think it can be a pretty helpful tool.
