The second DC issue sprint will be next week Thursday, at the APCO offices right by Metro Center station.

Wat?

The recently-renamed Drupal Ladder initiative aims to raise the percentage of Drupal.org users contributing to core by an order of magnitude, from 0.1% to 1%, by the US DrupalCon in 2014. Two types of events are being hosted to reach this goal:

Awesome.

I know, right? On the evening of Thursday, July 5, we will be meeting at the offices of one of our gracious hosts, APCO, to conduct our second local issue sprint. You should join us. It'll be fun.

Should I come?

If you're a developer, site builder, themer, or any kind of Drupal user: you bet! There are all sorts of core issues that need to be addressed, and everyone can help.

If you're a recruiter: probably not. We will be working during this event, not socializing and networking.

What should I bring?

This is going to be a working sprint, and as such, there are a few pre-requisites:

  • Familiarity with Drupal. Most of the issues in the queue need developers (to write code or review someone else's), but there are plenty of documentation issues to be addressed as well, and anyone who knows how to use Drupal can help out with those.
  • Bring a laptop. You can code on paper, but it's really hard to submit patches that way.
  • Be there on time, or as close as you can be anyway. We can get a lot done in this two-hour window if everyone is plugged in and ready to start soon after 7.

If you didn't attend any of the learn sprints, and aren't already a Drupal developer, I'd urge you to prepare by getting Drupal up and running locally and installing git.

Thanks to some volunteers in those previous learn sprints, we have a list of novice issues that we can start with, and I'm going to make sure that we've got a few more on deck…but really, with nearly 10,000 open issues, I think we'll all be able to find something to work on.

How do I get there?

The APCO offices are right by the Metro Center station in downtown DC, on the blue, orange, and red lines. If you're coming in by yellow or green line, Chinatown is only a few blocks away. The address is 700 12th St. NW, Washington, DC, and I believe we'll be on the 10th floor: you'll see a sign in the lobby, I'm sure. There are a couple parking garages nearby.

We have room for about 30 people. Please sign up (either on groups.drupal.org or Meetup) so we know how many to expect. If you have any questions, post a comment here or drop me a note: brock@brockboland.com
