First Drupal Chile Meetup in Santiago / "Building a Strong Chilean Drupal Community"

Hi Drupalers in Chile,

My name is Ben Kaplan and I’ve been a Drupal developer for the past 5 years. I recently moved to Chile as a part of the “Start-Up Chile” program (my website is www.scholaroo.com) and I’d love to organize a regular meetup in Santiago of Drupal developers doing cool things.

I also had a very interesting chat with another Chilean Drupal developer, Rafael Bravo of www.reclamos.cl. We talked about building a strong community of Drupal users in Chile and having monthly meetings, workshops, parties, and other events.

So we wanted to officially invite you to attend our first meeting. Rafael has generously agreed to donate his company’s office space to host the event. Here are the details:

Here’s what we’ve got on the agenda for the meeting:

1. “Building a Strong Local Drupal Community” presented by Ben Kaplan

Ben Kaplan previously led the Drupal Users Group in Portland, Oregon, USA (one of the largest local Drupal groups in the world, with over 750 members). In his presentation, he will discuss what we can do to build a strong Drupal community in Santiago and throughout Chile. More specifically, we’ll discuss the possibility of regular meetings, training and workshops, parties, and the recruitment of new developers at area universities and businesses.

2. “Drupal Lightning Talks” presented by the Chilean Drupal Community

Have you been working on a really cool Drupal project? Is it something you can share with others? We are going to open up the floor to short 5-minute presentations on the Drupal website, module, or topic of your choice. We will have a projector available, so come prepared to showcase your work.

After the formal meeting part of the evening, many of us will head to a nearby pub for drinks and more informal conversation. So if you can, plan to hang out for awhile.

Ben Kaplan lideró previamente el Grupo de Usuarios Drupal en Portland, Oregon, USA (uno de los mas grandes grupos locales de Drupal en el mundo, con sobre 750 miembros). En su presentación, el discutirá qué podemos hacer para construir un fuerte comundidad Drupal en Santiago y en todo Chile. Más especifícamente, discutiremos la posibilidad de reuniones periódicas, entrenamientos y talleres, fiestas y reclutamiento de nuevos desarrolladores en el área de universidades y negocios.

2. “Drupal Lightining Talks” presentado por la comunidad Chilena de Drupal
¿Has estado trabajando en un proyecto Drupal realmente interesante? ¿Es algo que puedas compartir con otros? Vamos a abrir el piso para presentaciones cortas de 5 minutos del sitio web Drupal, módulo, o tema de tu elección. Tendremos un proyector disponible, así que ven preparado para mostrarnos tu trabajo.

Despúes de la parte formal del meeting, muchos de nosotros nos dirigiremos a un pub cercano para unos tragos y alguna conversación más informal. Así qué si puedes, planificate para carretear por un rato.
