Start:
2009-08-04 18:30 America/New_York
Event type:
User group meeting

We will be hosted by the MIT Drupal Group in Cambridge in Building 51 - Tang Center (mapquest) in room E51-149 . Thanks again to Ed Carlevale for hosting us and to Susan MacPhee for securing this space.

Lightning Talks

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to present for 10 minutes on a topic of their choosing. You may show off your Drupal site, ask some questions of the audience, give a module demonstration, share some marketing ideas for Drupal, and so on. Just keep it brief. No expertise or planning required - just do it.

Dinner

After the meetup, some of us will continue the conversation over dinner at MIT's Muddy Charles Pub. We will likely pre-order some pizza so it meets us there. We'll take a count about half way through the meeting.

Future Dates

social bookmarks with Drupal

christefano's picture

Here is the code that accompanies the social bookmarking feature that I demoed tonight. There are two parts, a bookmarklet and the corresponding "bookmark" content type with link URL, link title, node title and node body fields.

the bookmarklet link

Drag this to your bookmarks toolbar:

save as bookmark bookmarklet

a "bookmark_url" CCK field

Just use the Link module and add a "bookmark_url" field to a bookmark content type and the above bookmarklet will work.

I was thinking about this in

I was thinking about this in terms of Open Atrium. I think we are going to have to bake the group ID right into the URL and querystring params of the bookmarklet which means that folks who belong to several groups will need several nearly duplicate bookmarklets. kind of a bummer but not that bad i guess.

Yes, you're right. Atrium

Yes, you're right. Atrium doesn't like to have anything posted in a group without having the space name in the URL. It would be nice to choose which group to target at 'node/add/bookmark' (as I did in my demo) but having one bookmarklet per group isn't a big deal for me.

Thanks!

Just wanted to give a huge thanks again to everyone for all the help tonight!

It was great meeting everyone who showed up, and I still am digesting how much I was able to learn. Particular thanks to Brian who helped quash a persistent mapping problem I'd been wrestling with for weeks.

In case anyone was interested, the rough rough (I can't say it enough!) Spare Change News website is:

http://www.sparechangenews.net/beta

I've been working overtime lately as I transition "real life" jobs, but am hoping to get it ship shape and at least launchable in the next few weeks. Just as reference, it's running the latest 6.x version of Drupal, and uses a custom theme based on BlueprintCSS. Right now, it's in serious feature flux (do Forums even make sense at this point? How can we publish news and blogs without undermining the print sales?) but that's part of the fun: It is and will continue to be a steady work-in-progress, even well after launch.

Thanks again, looking forward to sharing more pizza and beer soon.
