Hi!

Is it legal to have subscription based web site built on Drupal? I won't distribute anything by will have users visit the site.

Any idea?

Of course. The GPL on Drupal applies to its code, not to any of your data or service offerings. If you want to setup a site and charge people for membership, or sell products or downloads via the site, that's absolutely fine. Many many (many many many) sites do one or more of the above already.

It's a bit complicated coz...

Thanks Crell,

The service that I am thinking of providing is kind of online survey built on top of Drupal. Here the user will use the extended form created out of the modules derived from Drupal and track their surveys using again the modules derived from the Drupal.

All happens through web interface.

Two questions:
1. Can i charge visitors to use the survey tool created on top of Drupal?
2. Am I obligated to give the module source codes to any user (paying or non-paying) who uses the survey tracking tool through web interface and asks for the codes?

Thanks,
Keyguy

Yes.

No.

The only requirement is that if you choose to give a copy of the source code for your extra modules to someone else, you license it to them under the GPL and not some other license. If you choose not to distribute your extra modules, then there is nothing else you are required to do. Letting people access your site over the web does not count as distribution.

Legal
