Ever wanted some bug to be fixed or new Drupal Commerce feature to be implemented – but do not have enough funds to hire developer? I did and I don't. Please help funding implementation of Drupal Commece Marketplace functionality using a power of crowd funding : I have already put “my 2 cents” - but it is not enough I guess.
In this case PatchRanger project - the first Drupal patch crowd funding platform - can help.
1) Create an issue on Drupal.org Drupal Commerce issue queue as usual (or find one that already exists) that is annoying you.
2) Assign a bounty on the issue on PatchRanger main page.
3) See how fast it becomes implemented.
4) Enjoy new functionality!
If you are interested in it, read a discussion within the Prairie Initiative about ways of funding Drupal development : http://groups.drupal.org/node/142779#comment-800273 . There you can find an info about how it works and why it is free.

A picture is worth a thousand words
A picture is worth a thousand words. In order to convince others that such bounty system is what Drupal in general and Drupal Commerce in particular really need and that it is indeed timely, we need to present graphs and charts containing Drupal statistics over time. That's why I'm going to do "Drupal data mining": investigate how the number of open issues is increasing every week, how the average issue lifetime is changing, etc. I am currently collecting data for this analysis, because all the necessary infrastructure for this is already in place, including News section on the PatchRanger website, allowing to share content through social networks.
I'll keep you posted.
Drupal statistics visualization : nice charts to see
Hello everyone.
I have created some nice charts, visualizing Drupal statistics.
They show the number of Drupal active issues in dynamics.
Some trends are interesting to discover.
Everybody is welcome : http://www.patchranger.com/drupal-growing-fast-and-looks-teenager .
The second weekly Drupal active issues statistics report
Good day to all.
Today the second statistics report of active Drupal issues was born.
Trends become clearer, conclusions - more founded.
In addition, the first attempt to analyze the average lifetime of Drupal core issues was made.
You should see it: http://www.patchranger.com/06092012-weekly-report-drupal-active-issues.
Plus average lifetime statistics.
New weekly Drupal statistics report is ready.
Now, in addition to data on the number of issues in the status of "active" on a project, it includes data on average lifetime of issues, aggregated by type (bug reports, requests for new features, support requests and tasks) over the last month and over all time. The projects presented in the report: the core, Views, Ubercart, Drupal Commerce, CTools, CCK, Date, Webform and others.
Weekly Drupal statistics report.
The value of this report is that it shows how the main indicators of Drupal community change over time. Dynamics, frankly, is impressive.
Doing the findings is up to you.
Convenient way to determine your level of consent
I have published new Drupal statistics report.
You could find it here: http://www.patchranger.com/20120920-weekly-drupal-statistics-report .
I hope you will be also interested in the fact that now you could fill in Adherence form to provide the information about when exactly I should officially invite you to the project. What do I mean? I mean that this form gives you an opportunity to tell me directly what is your level of consent, for example:
- How many Developer users should be registered on this site to attract your attention?
- How many Sponsor users should be registered on this site to attract your attention?
- What sum of money should be already paid to arouse your interest?
- How many issues should become fixed before you appreciate?
You could find Adherence form on any page on PatchRanger site.
Thank you for reading.
The first ever reward has been assigned!
I am proud to announce that now you have an opportunity to get paid for your Drupal contribution. $72 - is a reward to one, who will manage to create a patch that fixes the issue. See details in appropriate piece of PatchRanger news.
Great idea and concept!
Hi Staratel,
Thanks a lot for letting us know about this platform and the current paid contributions.
I really find the concept very good because so many times, I've been asked on IRC or by clients if we could fix a particular issue on DO and provide a patch.
Most of the time, they would be ready to pay, but because I am already engaged on other projects, I am unable to help and usually I would redirect them to Freelancers networks or the Marketplace on DO/GDO.
This would give me another opportunity to redirect these clients to the Patch Ranger platform to post their paid contributions.
We would definitely be glad take part to fixing issues, getting patches done and earning some extra cash that would most be donated to our local Drupal Associations or groups.
What interests me the most in this is that it would provide a solution for people to sponsor specific patch developments and potentially get them fixed faster in return.
Ideally, I would be interested in staying informed on the "Recent reward assignings", would you be able to setup special feeds, newsletters or notifcations for that?
Or perhaps I could simply try following you on Twitter/G+ if you are able to push messages when new offers are made available.
In any case, I'll certainly keep following this project with a lot of interest.
Thanks again very much for your contribution and involvement in the community.
Cheers!
At your service!
Hi DYdave,
Thanks for your input, I appreciate your support.
Exactly! You've got the point! That is why PatchRanger was created: to help those who make money using Drupal not to be distracted for "plumbing". Now there is a special market, where everyone could invest to Drupal development with such simple and effective way - patch crowd funding.
Special thanksgiving for it:)
It is wonderful, glad to hear.
Agree. Please note, that it is also a way "to range" all issues by their real priority for real users - the most valuable one is the first candidate to work on. So it is win-win situation, everybody is beneficiary.
You have 3 opportunities to do it, choose any (or some) you prefer:
RSS and Twitter are available at any page of PatchRanger site: big juicy buttons at the top. If you prefer email notifications, you should fill in any of two forms on the site: either "Assign a Reward" (I don't think it is your case:) ) or "Get Notified". Please note that this way you will receive PatchRanger Newsletter, which of course contains the information you need (recent rewardings) - but together with other pieces of news, which you may not need (as I understand). Hm, do you say, that a separate channel for recent rewardings is needed? The idea is interesting, I will let you know, when I get progress with it.
It's a great pleasure to know that you appreciate my contribution. Will do my best to acquit expectations.
Promises became real
@DYdave Hi David,
Done! You could subscribe to special "PatchRanger Bounties" RSS (besides a regular one "PatchRanger News"): http://www.patchranger.com/feed/bounties. There is not so much information yet (please keep in mind, that the most detailed info is at the PatchRanger homepage in a special view "Recent rewards") - but it is indeed the easiest way to stay infromed.
You could - if you prefer. My Twitter username is inside my profile - and at PatchRanger homepage. I will try to do my best on posting recent info to Twitter.
Thanks again for your interest.
Regards,
Dmitry Danilson (aka PatchRanger).
Great work! Got my updates configured.
Hi Dmitry,
Thank you very much for your nice, prompt and very complete follow-up.
I think I didn't notice at first the three very obvious buttons in the top right corner, that pretty much summarize your answers very well :) (Twitter, RSS/site, RSS/bounties).
Anyhow, now I've got the RSS feeds configured in my browser and mobile, so I can get all the latest updates for the bounties very easily.
So far, I think you've done a nice job with the site, concept and I will certainly keep following the bounties with a great interest.
Hopefully, we will be able to participate more and potentially help fixing some sponsored issues.
Thanks again for your help for suscribing/following and we're all looking forward to participating more on Patch Ranger (as we stay informed).
Cheers!
