DrupalChix name upgrade

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

There was feedback at the DrupalChix BoF today in Munich that the name DrupalChix may not be the best name for this group. After some discussion it was noted that the original name was really decided upon due to not having a better name. We further discussed this and decided to add Women in Drupal to the name.

You will start seeing these changes in all places, including the @DrupalChix Twitter account. The account name will not be changing, just the definition or "real name" as in the case of the Twitter account.

I think this is great. I'm not a fan of chix or girrrrls or any other cutesy term for women groups, so I'm glad this is changing.

So "Bitches in Drupal" also

So "Bitches in Drupal" also out? Well, there goes the hiphop theme song. ;-)

Yay!

Speaking as a woman who came of age in the late sixties, I applaud the change! For my generation, the word "chick" was very demeaning and we fought against its use. It's been a source of embarrassment to me to be one of the Drupalchix, even though I love the group. This makes me happy.

Will the IRC channel still be #drupalchix?

Hello, Ladies. A while back,

Hello, Ladies.

A while back, I bought the domain names DrupalChix.* and planned to build a business directory site for women in Drupal. I have now purchased WomenInDrupal.* for the same purpose, and will also point the DrupalChix.* domains there (if desired). Please, let's not change the name. I have no more money. grin/argh (Feel free to hire me!)

Am working on another site that will be a business directory of another sort. So, once that is completed, I will clone it and tweak it for the Women In Drupal.

Sound good?

I'm very happy to see this name upgrade. As I wrote earlier in the new Women in Drupal Facebook group, the changed name very quickly felt more inclusive of people who identify as women but not as "chix" or similarly gendered words (like me.) I know women-identified people of many genders, and words like "chicks" or even "ladies" aren't inclusive of many people who identify as women but very much do not identify with those words, for many reasons.

I'd love to see this group and our discussions move away from language that is not inclusive of the very wide spectrum of women in Drupal.

great move!

Like many of the other posters here - I've never felt comfortable with the *chix stuff. I'm not a 'chick' (feathered or otherwise), I'm a human being, and I find the term is demeaning.

Just a shame we can't drop the *chix element altogether :)

But thank you for the name change

I like the Dixie Chicks and I

I like the Dixie Chicks and I like Drupalchix - it's fun! Maybe we can use both!
