Multisite under Aegir

Hello

Under Aegir you can very easily set up a multisite installation - that's what Aegir is designed to do.
But Aegir does the multisites each with a separate database.

If you particularly want a shared database for shared content etc then have a look at domain module, and it's many sub-modules. It's very powerful, and I've had it working under Aegir.

For shared login, there are drupal shared login modules, and these will work the same under aegir as with any other drupal installation. Aegir is more about how drupal sites are deployed, and the actual sites themselves are just standard drupal sites.

thanks for responding.

i think i am going to try separate databases, the domains-12 in all are separate from each other. i figure its more secure to keep them separate.

oh boy! all three sound interesting

thank you!
i hate having to make decisions like this. i am working with 12 full domain names, not subdomains, domain access looks really complicated. i think the multisite user profile looks good, i also see there is a multisite login and multisite api mods
"REQUIREMENTS
You must be:

Using a multisite installation.
Using a separate database for each site (no table prefixing, though the code could be modified to allow for this, patches welcome).
Share the users table across all sites (If this is not you, what are you hoping that this module will do for you?)"
i think multisite user profile "

i use all three together?

do i still have to fool around with a Multi-Site .htaccess configuration?

virtual site doesnt fit with with i had in mind for this project, but i would love to play with it. it might work for something else i had in mind.

ldap integration

Other option is to put users in a ldap tree and use ldap integration module: http://drupal.org/project/ldap_integration

ldap?

huh? thats the first time i have ever heard/seen this term! sounds insanely complicated, i googled it up and still curled into a fetal position. i cant handle that jelly, but thanks for giving me a recommendation.
