Very, very soon we will be attending 'Badcamp Switzerland 2012-11' — in order to hack & code away more or less properly & preparedly, I thought we could meet, one more time, in Sphères before the main event and have a look at certain elementary things, i.e. prerequisites.

To be frank and open: I, for instance, have STILL not had time yet to deepen my knowledge about Git in a practical/applied manner at all (dänx to Sascha/berdir for the good Git overview at the last DUG-CH meeting). Yes, shame on me, I know. Anyhow, this means I am able to e.g. program a D7 module like an ajaxified CRUD app for someone, yes, but I would nevertheless need 20-40 minutes to become familiar with Git in a relatively proper manner. And I am quite sure that there are more people like me out there who couldn't reserve enough time in the past to improve D8 core or something similar which Git-enables one automatically!

During this @hoc I'd like to, amongst other things, make use of Git for my [languishing] module co-maintainership for instance. Should there be others in similar situations, please join in and we will be able to make things finally work — before the great feature freeze!

Well, after elucidating this real life case study in a detailed way (;), I want to finish the essay with the inclusion of a link to a very beautiful/clear visual illustration/diagram, see below. For me, this is an almost ideal form of communicating a technical process:

Thanks ;) Just a small note:

Thanks ;)

Just a small note: It's not a requirement to be an git expert to show up at the sprint. An important aspect of every (core) sprint is to attract new contributors and get them up to speed to work on issues on their own in the future.

So, it will help your own productivity if you show up with git already installed and some basic knowledge about it (get a repository, create and apply patches, ..) but we'll help you if there are any issues with git or something else.

(While we're at it. The second important part of sprints is bringing key participants together in a room and letting them find a compromise that works for everyone to avoid endless issue discussions and remove blocks. Writing code, on the other hand, is often not even that important).

I will be there and try to

I will be there and try to get you hooked up with the basic Git usage.

The link you posted is great, I have it in my Git bookmarks :) But you don't need to know how to use feature branches to create a patch.

Anyhow... We'll resolve your Problems.

The time, the time ...

It's so typical, again: I reserved plenty of time for the prep meeting & for spending a good time in Sphères this afternoon/evening, but I guess I won't make it today! Maybe in the evening though. Hope you'll be there anyway!!!

This case shows that my 'problems' are actually less of technical but more of organizational nature. Danx nonetheless for offering help, Luke. Probably, I will have to check Git out this/coming/next Sunday then.

@hoc = dynamische Norm (trotzdem ein Sorry!)

Hm ...

Gruss
Giammi
