I sat in on a Google Hangout last night and the format of that I thought might work well for BadAss.
For example:-
- We fix a time each week - say 5pm Fridays - and have a hangout for about 30 mins
- We have various reps from BadAss contributing to a panel of 3-4 each week (any more I think it gets too fragmented)
- We pick a topic each week to discuss - which we publicise the week before
- We maybe have a round robin of some cool stuff we learnt in the week
- We take any questions
If we had a varied mix of stuff each week - some front end, some back end, some product, marketing, business focussed we might be able to build up a little audience in a kind of boagworld stylee.
Could be something we just maybe experiment with between ourselves and see how it goes? The nice thing with hangouts is you can have them recorded and archived on your youtube account - so for anyone who has a youtube channel, if we shared who hosted the hangout we'd each start to get some useful, timely content on our channels too.
I'm happy to kick it off - just need a couple of people to join in. Thoughts?

Hi Alick, Sounds good - how
Hi Alick,
Sounds good - how many do you think hangout can handle as a broadcast tool? Im thinking if it takes off it will be slow and steady anyway..
We do have a webex account if we need to scale it up (planning ahead!)
Will be in for the monday meet on the 5th..
cheers, Kevin
how many can it handle
I don't know Kev - but the one I got my idea from the only people broadcasting were the panel - they were just talking around a theme with other people listening and submitting questions by a sort of chat app in the hangout.
Specs and limits of Hangouts
"Maximum 10 participants."
"There's a 150 minute check-in to make sure you're still there."

That'll be for just private
That'll be for just private Hangouts I suppose.
+1
I'd be up for something like this. Hangouts rule.
Interesting
It's kind of crazy, but I was recently thinking about this same exact thing so I'd certainly be up for it. I'll be moving down to Brighton on 13 November and bringing my video camera, lights, etc, with me, so I'm up for anything else like this as well.
I think this is a great idea.
I think this is a great idea. I work and live in Worthing, which is close to Brighton but not close enough that I can make the regular face to face meetings so something remote like this would be really good.
Experimenting...
Thanks everyone for positive comments - we've started having a bit of a play with this - once we've messed around with a couple more things we'll suggest an initial event we can all pitch into - watch this space!
Was a gust at the Somerset
Was a gust at the Somerset Drupal group this week using Google hangout and it was great, we had three participant one being the main event.
