responsive themes

I know Adaptive Themes is popular (and I've noticed it's what the themes for commons 3 are based on) but I like Sasson and recently tried Zen on a site (figuring Zen would be a bit more updated/complete as it has some history/clout to it).

Zen stable hasn't been moving much, I see some movement in dev, but I took another look at Sasson and it has it's own little grid system variant now instead of the old liquid 960gs, Salsa http://tsi.github.com/Salsa/#getting-started - the responsive demo on the page is pretty nice. Most of these themes have the same core elements, HTML5BP, JS shivs, modernizr - I haven't done heavy testing between the themes but the base templates for Sasson are pretty clean and the developer is responsive. I'm leaning towards going back to Sasson.

some more goodness

CSS Flipper might come in handy for il8n http://drupal.org/project/css_flipper

I haven't had a chance to play with it, but apparently Sasson can now automatically generate a sprite image: http://www.linnovate.net/blog/whats-new-sasson-v25#sprites

Zen5

After some more catching up with changes in Sasson at this point I'd stick with Zen5 - I prefer how it handles media queries and vertical rhythm. Sasson has some interesting stuff going on with assetic integration - I'm interested in seeing where v3 ends up being once it stabilizes. It'll be good to see Sasson finally drop PHamlP support, I hopped off it quickly in v2 and just used the ruby compiler for gem support, but it is still clogging up the issue queue. :)

fyi - Someone made a spreadsheet on d.o measuring the performance of responsive base themes and Zen5 was fastest, adaptive wasn't too far behind, and Omega was on the sluggish side. Sasson wasn't included but I'd imagine it to be closer to Zen.

I haven't played with http://drupal.org/project/arti yet, but it might be of interest to anyone that uses / wants to use skinr. I went to a panel it a year or so ago and it seemed interesting but I wasn't really sold.
