Florida-based Drupal consultants?

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hello there, I'm one of the newer members of this group, but I've been developing Drupal sites for over a year now. I'm based in Merritt Island (near the Space Center) and I have some experience in writing custom modules, but I'm getting ready to start a new phase of a project where I think I need some help. Hopefully there is another Florida-based Drupal developer out there who can help.

I'm putting together a proposal for a client that will include some customizations to both the Views module and the Ecommerce module. It isn't necessary for you to have experience with both - I don't mind using a different person for each task.

  1. Online membership renewal: the client has members that pay a yearly fee to be a full member. They would like to provide an online method of payment for their members during the site registration process. In addition, there are a couple of other ecommerce processes they'd like to incorporate/customize. From my research, the ecommerce module will handle most of the requirements, but some customization will be required.

  2. Zip code proximity searches: the client has several node types (projects, products, agents) that all have zip code location data attached. They would like the user to be able to enter a zip code and find nodes and certain members that are within X miles. The Location module already does most of this, but we'll need to tweak the UI a bit to meet the requirements. Currently, the Views module handles the searching for these nodes, by my client would like the zip code search to be integrate with the other (Views) filters.

I have not yet submitted the proposal for these tasks, but they are an ongoing client of mine (I recently completed phase 1 of the site) and don't anticipate any competition for the work. Therefore, your compensation will be added to the proposal.

Let me know if anyone is interested!

Also - would anybody be interested in a Florida Drupal meetup? Have there been any? I'm hoping to go out to Drupalcon at the OSCMS Summit (http://www.oscms-summit.org/) in CA next month - is anyone else from Florida going?

Thanks in advance,
-mike

Florida Drupal Meetup

I don't think I can help you much on the above challenges. I was planning on tackling ecommerce modules when their V5 releases come out.

I am very interested in a Florida Drupal Meetup. I think we have enough members to make it worth while

Actually, I think the location module with the location_views sub-module will take care of the zip code proximity search. Let's get something going on a Florida meetup! Maybe in Orlando? I'm on the Space Coast and I'd be willing to find us a place around here to meetup...

and ecommerce has release a drupal 5 version

I have installed the new ecommerce modules and got a small demo working (after a few bugs..)

I think Orlando would be a good choice. It will be a couple of weeks before I can give it much attention but I am very interested.

I may not be able to help much with node customization, but I'm pretty good at sorting out how to get things looking and working right with the already available tools. We should meet up sometime since we're fairly close to one another.

Thanks,

David,

Yeah, if one of us can't make the meetup, we should definitely get together anyway - always good to know other Drupal developers in the area.

David and Mike--

I'm right down the road as well. Do you guys have regular meet ups in the Space Coast area? If not I would definitely be willing to organize the date/place/etc. I'm new to Drupal and I'm embarking on a massive learning curve. I've worked with Wordpress and Joomla in the past, but have ventured on to Drupal for the flexibility. Shoot me an email if you are interested.

Thanks!

Julie,

Good to hear from you. Are you signed up for Florida DrupalCamp next weekend (http://2010.fldrupalcamp.org)?

Waiting List

Hi Mike-

I'm on the waiting list. Hopefully a spot will open up. Did you help organize it?

Yep

We're going to see what we can do about the waiting list on Tuesday - stay tuned...

Broward County Anyone?

Hi Everyone,
Too bad the attendance was capped at 150. I've been up to Atlanta twice because I didn't know of anything going on in Florida close to me.

There are at least a few of us down in the south - we had 8-9 at our last meetup in January. Pretty wide range of knowledge too - good group of people.

If you don't mind the drive down to Miami, the next meeting's going to be on the 24th - here's a link to the event page.
