Hallo Drupalers, ich war jetzt grad ein paarmal nicht dabei und weiss nicht, was behandelt wurde...
Derzeit befasse ich mich stark mit der User Experience für Autoren(!), und nutze da DS recht stark (Code-Fields). Ich könnte da im Design-Track ein paar Sachen zeigen, mit der sich die UX rasch und einfach verbessern lässt.

Kommerzialisierung als Degradierungs-Faktor
Ich liege oftmals extrem richtig mit meinem "Gschpüri" oder meiner Nase! Und was Drupals Degradierung bei den Google-Trends anbelangt, so würde ich auf Anhieb intuitiv auf den Faktor Kommerzialisierung tippen. Es ist scheint sich hierbei zudem um eine Art der inkonsistent-undemokratischen Kommerzialisierung zu handeln, bei welcher einige wenige Facer die Szene dominieren. Ich kann mir ganz gut vorstellen, dass das viele Leute (gerade auch Novizen und Neulinge) stark anpisst. Früher war da noch eine andere, offenere Stimmung: Frühlingshaft und im Sinne von "auf zu neuen Ufern".

Bitte, bitte keine Egozentrizitäten, Christoph. Wenn ich mich generell ausdrücke (was mich selber ja miteinschliesst, ansonsten wäre es ja nicht generell), dann musst du das nicht auf dich beziehen. Ich weiss, der Mensch macht das so, denn er selber steht ja immer im Zentrum des Universums -- trotzdem war und ist meine Aussage eine generelle.
[EDIT:] Das bleibt sie auch! Denn in der obigen Form kann sie immerhin etwas wachrütteln, nicht wahr!?
[EDIT:] Noch was: Meine Ausdrucksart impliziert einen Perspektivenwechsel! Weg von mir, hin zum Neuling. Das ist Literatur, Christoph, nicht Programmierung ;)

Meine Meinung bezüglich Drupal lässt aus diversen Gründen nach. Z.B. zuviele Köche verderben den Brei.

... eigentlich wäre es ja optimal, wenn viel mehr Leute mitmachen würden. Webchick erwähnte 2010/2011 zwei Zahlen (rein aus der Erinnerung): Von all den Millionen Menschen, die Drupal produktiv einsetzen, partizipieren weniger als 0.5% auf aktive/pro-aktive Weise !!! Na ja, oberflächlich kalkuliert kann ich das nachvollziehen: Hätten wir bei rund ~10 Millionen Drupal-Sites 10% Contributors, dann wäre die Software wohl schon bei Version 800 angelangt. Ja bereits bei lediglich 1% (100'000) aktiver Kontributoren wäre die Version bestimmt wesentlich höher.
Näheres ist auf http://drupal.org/node/1399056 ("Getting Involved in the Drupal Community: Survey Results") zu finden: "Drupal.org has over 725'000 registered members in 228 countries. However, only a very small percentage of these members contribute back to the project. [...] "
Dass die Kollaboration nicht immer optimal oder lösungsorientiert verläuft, ist meiner Ansicht nach eher auf organisatorische Gründe zurückzuführen. Dies ist allerdings nicht Drupal-spezifisch, sondern allgemeiner Art: Das Ganze (Online-Zusammenarbeit, Many-to-Many, Peer-to-Peer) ist halt, trotz 2013, eine relativ neue Erscheinung. Zudem müssen Aufwende, wie anderswo in der Welt/Wirtschaft auch, irgendwie finanziert werden -- an sich wäre es wunderbar, wenn sich gerade diese nicht-produktiven Aufwende vollständig in der Kostenrechnung auf den Kostenträger überwälzen/übertragen lassen könnten. Bei der Kostenstelle Administration/Verwaltung wird das ja auch so gehandhabt. Na ja ...
Dass letztlich aber immer dieselben Personen die Aufwende auf sich nehmen (und diese Aufwende sind immens!!!), das ist bestimmt nicht gerade sehr förderlich -- sowohl für die betreffenden Personen als auch die gesamte Gemeinschaft. Als Mensch möchte man ja bspw. vielleicht auch einmal ein Privatleben haben.

You can make number/statistics say anything you want
@the_phi The Google trend you are looking at is only looking at the searches for only the word "drupal". In a block below it also shows related terms. If I add the related drupal terms to "drupal" and do a trend search on "drupal+drupal 7+drupal moddule+theme drupal+drupal php+cms drupal+views drupal+drupal themes+drupal 6" it shows a peak in these terms in September 2009 for Switzerland and in April and July 2009world. However there are many more drupal related search in trend that I could have added to the trend search that would have changed the results in one way or another. Examples: drupal api, drupal tutorial, drupal modules, drupal image, drupal menu, drupal download
Adding these terms to the previous term shows the peak in March 2009 for the world and still in September 2009 for Switzerland, but not a big downward trend but some ups and downs.
A search for "drupal switzerland 2009" shows that a number of drupal events took place in or near Switzerland that year that seemingly generated more interest in Drupal.

All these Google trend searches are very wide searches that return a lot of results none of which a person that uses drupal on a day to day basis will use much. The would use more specific searches such as "drupal theme omega" vs. "drupal theme" or maybe "responsive drupal theme". This also takes only into account searches on google. The search on drupal.org has been greatly improved and I find myself using it more often that google for finding drupal related information.
All this to say this is only one perspective. It is like the police officer at a traffic accident that interviews all the witness of the accident and comes up with very different stories of what happen mostly because of their different perspectives.
December 21 has come and gone and the world is still here and so is Drupal. I think that Drupal has areas that it can improve on to increase usage but on the other hand the Drupal community at large has identified these and is working hard to improve them and get a number of them into Drupal 8.
As my grandma always said take any piece of advice or information with a grain or two of salt. What she meant is consider the source and the scope and reliability of the information and the person that is providing it.
That all said where do you do you Drupal searches? Google? Drupal.org? Some place else?

Thank you for your post. I briefly went through your search queries but I still get a decrease of global Drupal online attention for 2012. However, fear is a bad consultant, as the saying goes & the experience proofs. One is well adviced to not react/overreact on a fear-based feeling/foundation (apart from reptilic/instinctual attack-or-flee reactions in certain situations, obviously). Nevertheless, SWOT remains SWOT. And when it comes to attention -- one of the most important resources on earth (if one wanted to declare it as such at all) -- the "T" (Threat) aspect of this Google trend remains in the discussion room, I would say.
I am, btw, aware about the [potentially misleading and blunt] form of my expression above (http://groups.drupal.org/node/270313#comment-864123) and would like to point out publicly (internally already clarified) that my chosen and used method of linguistic reduction ("Zuspitzung") should probably have been accompanied with some further explanations. This particular comment definitely needs to be interpreted carefully, with a pinch of artistic salt.

I would definitely not let fear be your guide. All I was trying to say was that all searches for information are not done via google. In fact as a person becomes more knowledgeable about Drupal they will both 1. search less and 2. know where to find the information they need and may go directly to the source.
In the beginning I use to search for Drupal modules with google but now for as long as I can remember have switched to going directly to drupal.org and then use the search box and under Refine your Search select Modules. So all those searches don't get tallied by google.
