Drupal Guy from Germany wants to work in NZ

As far as I know companies have quite some problems finding skilled Drupal developers here in New Zealand and also Drupal might play a quite big role in the New Zealand Government sector soon, but this isn't decided yet.

So from my perspective the overall situation is really good. But there might be some problems with the immigration process, even if you are perfectly suited, you might lack "points", as the suitability of an applicant is based on points which somebody can collect in different categories like: age, family status, university studies etc.

This might be a problem if you are over 30. If you are under 30, it's no problem at all, because you can come here with a Work and Travel Visa anytime for at least 1 year. I came here about 2 years ago (also from Berlin btw) and I never regretted it. :-)

If you are over 30 you would normally have to come here first to get a job, as people usually would like to see people in person, before they sign a contract, which leads to the funny case, that you have to come here with a tourist visa and then go for a job hunt, which is not really allowed under the tourist visa. But I think it's more or less a tolerated gray zone.

thanks a lot for your reply. It gives me some hope, even if i am 35 years old. Well i got the "german diplom" in computer science and having work experience in the sector on big companies. I will check the point system, maybe its worth trying :) I visited NZ twice and lost my heart to it. The same applies to my wife.
And now as i became a father, i would like to see my daughter grow up in NZ !
