As I touched on responsive web design and Drupal at the meetup earlier this week, someone asked specifically about government sites, which is obviously a major segment of our work in this area.
.Net magazine (which is about web design in general, not about a Microsoft product) came out with a list of the top 25 responsive sites of 2012, and #12 went to Gov.uk, the official site of the British government. In .net's words:
"The Gov.uk design is visually simple (practically no images), but it's clear what its intention is: to help you find information quickly. For government websites, this is no easy task. I love that this site is not only responsive but a perfect example of how well-thought-out content and structure can lead to a clearer user experience, regardless of the device used. It's so important that goverments present their information accessibly; I'm sure the simplicity of this site will be an example other government organisations will follow."
Gov.uk does not appear to be a Drupal site, but in terms of responsive web design most of the heavy lifting is done in the front-end technologies so which platform they're running on is not overly critical. The same concepts can be applied equally well to Drupal, WordPress, CQ5, etc.
