Hi Folks,
I've just recently launched a side project that I thought I'd share with the folks in the Boston Group (I'll probably talk about it for a minute at the meetup tomorrow). It's called The Module Off; it's a contest for Drupal devs to show their stuff. Every two weeks there will be a new module development challenge to which participants can submit code and a screencast for a chance to win a sweet prize.
There's only 3 days left in the current contest, but if you wanted to give this one a shot, there's a Nexus 7 tablet up for grabs!
Anyway, I'm definitely looking for more participants, more feedback, and a few more sponsors to offer products or services as a prize for upcoming challenges, so I thought I'd share it with you all.

This is interesting.
This is interesting. However, when discussing with a colleague he said "yeah, this seems more like a ploy to get low cost module development". It's not really apparent what the point of The Module Off is, who benefits (besides the prize winner) and what the motivations of the site sponsors are.

Bad First Impressions...What to do about it?
Yeah, I've gotten this feedback before. Really I'm just doing it as a fun side project. Future prizes will be provided by Drupal-related companies in exchange for the free advertising (i.e. the next prize will be a Free year of Pantheon hosting). Really my intentions are pure, people are just cynical I guess.
Any ideas on how to make the site (or the idea) come off as more pure in its intentions? I'm really just interested in providing a fun experience for developers to learn / share their experiences. What I've done so far:
* I wrote a blog post with a response to that specific issue.
* I added a big button inviting anyone to propose the next challenge.

Ah, I didn't click the "Read More" on that blog post while poking around. One minor thing might be to add some of those questions/answers to the FAQ, as that's the first place I looked.
Hopefully after the first challenge, the presentation of the results and submissions will set us cynics' minds at ease. :-)

Submitted a module for the first challenge. I wasent really sure the best way to do a screencast since I do not have a mic. Hopefully the walk through was good enough.
Thanks for building the Site hope it does well and looking forward to more challenges.

I think this is an excellent idea. To the nay sayers I say give it a chance and even if it's just a ploy do get work done I don't really care so long as the code is published.

Thanks! I think you're right...as the site builds up a repository of old material, it will be clearer to people.
