perhaps a little late, but the techraising meetup tonight should be pretty relevant for front endish folks.

So? How was it?

(I spent some time watching the Design Styleguides presentation from Drupalcon Sydney.)

Very good. The beginning was a little too much "this is why it's important" for my tastes, but it was interesting seeing what direction Zurb is going with their framework and I definitely picked up some useful bits of information. Q&A was a lot of fun - Chris is a good guy.

I wonder if there'd be enough interest to get a "front end" meetup group? We have a few groups that kind of touch on it, but it'd be nice to just have a dedicated round table of design / css / js / sass people.

I am definitely not a front-end type person, although I am perfectly happy to hack away at HTML/CSS/JS. I would rather see FE stuff talked about at the Drupal meetings we have. I would even support dedicating some of the meetings to FE talk. How will I know what is new and important for websites I create if it's sequestered off in a special interest group?

I would be interested in a dedicated front-end group to discuss more advanced topics. In my mind this would not supplant drupal group in general. It might even give us more front-end topics to bring back to drupal group.

I can see the benefits of a Frontend Engineer meetup, with so many that dabble specifically in HTML/CSS/JS, but I can also see there being a large number of targeted questions like "How can I make this work in {$cms}?" It might provide for a bit more cross pollination across platforms.

In many ways, the Web Developers group tries to take this in hand.

2 cents on "front end" Darren's remarks..

I haven't been coming to Drupal group for a while because I'm using Wordpress. ( BTW: I still think the Drupal group is the most fun). I noticed Darren's last email, and just wanted to say that I'd be keen on participating in any new front-end groups, or drupal group sessions focused on it. I believe there is ongoing interest.

Under consideration

I have a meetup group I am considering restructuring a bit so it can be a bit more inclusive to Web Application Development technologies including topics like PHP, FrontEnd, NodeJS, etc. Right now it is a single PHP Users Group meeting which occurs once a month. I think by being more inclusive, we can nurture more of a cross culture and make it easier to pick and choose. I would include the Drupal meeting on First Tuesdays as well.

Each meeting will need their own leader as I am not able to lead/host all of these meetings myself, but I am happy to sponsor the meetup the account and the regular group meetings I am in charge of.

Some thinking needs to be fleshed out a bit more, but I want to throw this out there as a thought.

@Darryl - this wouldn't mean we'd never talk about front end stuff @ Drupal, but there is more going on than just drupal themes and it'd be fun to geek out on a regular basis. As Julia said we'll discover cool stuff to bring back as well.

@Darren - it seems to me like there should be a PHP/Node/Python etc group and a HTML/SASS/JS/UX group. Whether that means merging PHP with existing Web Developers and creating Front End or whatever I'm not entirely clear about. If there are no large presentations we could setup a barcamp method where people talk about something new/cool for 5/10 minutes. In many ways these groups are more about facilitating cooperation afterwards than just what is presented on at that time (watch a screencast). People can go to both (you would), but I think keeping it in a vague logic vs structure/presentation helps keep an audience somewhat aligned.

It seems like there is definitely some interest - and we can get more judging by the turnout last night.
