I recently learned that there is an upcoming global Sprint Weekend (March 9, 2013 and March 10, 2013) with sprints taking place in at least 24 communities around the world. I assume the focus will be on Drupal 8.

At the Twin Cities Drupal User Group meeting last night we discussed the possibility of pulling together a group of local folks to get together and participate. First task is gauging the amount of interest and then determining the best time/day to gather (Sat or Sun).
Who would be interested in participating?
NOTE: ANYONE CAN PARTICIPATE. You don't have to be a coder or fluent in PHP. I'm not. This is a great chance to learn more about Drupal 8 and learn how you can contribute to CORE. We can work on issues in small groups to help beginners. If we need assistance, I've been assured that Drupal IRC channels will be full of experts willing to answer questions and help out.

Hi Tim!
I'm not a coder but would like to be there and learn how I can contribute - Saturday probably works best for me since sundays are church and other family related events or even just enjoying a nap!

Some Interference with the 24 hour Website Challenge
That's the weekend of the 24 hour website challenge, so we might lose out on a lot of local talent.
That said, I would be interested in participating in some sprints next weekend. Let'd do it!
Great
Great Maryann and Wilbur. I'm aware of the conflict with the 24 hour website challenge, but figure there might be a few us that are still available. I'm figuring that if we get at least 5 people, we have enough to do something and frankly I'd be willing to meet with one person in a coffeeshop for a few hours. :-)
Tess is also interested, so that makes 4 of us so far. Let's see who else expresses interest by this time tomorrow. Then we can decide which day and time works best for us.

Interested, but possibly unavailable
I would be interested in being involved. Saturday would be better than Sunday for me, but I can't guarantee my participation on either day -- alas.
I'll watch for developments and give my commitment if/when feasible.
Intersted but very new to Drupal
I would love to be involved but I am very new to the Drupal. I am not so much into the web development coding yet but would love to see how could I contribute. Saturday works fine for me.
5-6 Potential Participants, So far.......
Thanks @klmyers and @AskishK for your interest.
That brings gives us 6 possible participants (in just the first 12 hours), with more to come.....
It's looking as if Saturday is going to be the best time for most of us. But, let's see who else turns up overnight.

Anyone else?
Anyone else interested in getting together this weekend for the Drupal Sprint Weekend? Looks like we'll be gathering at undetermined location on Saturday for at least a few hours. I'm thinking we should schedule at least 4 hours to make it worth the effort (not everyone has to participate the entire time).
There are now 29 groups around the world listed on the website as participating. I haven't listed us yet, because we're still not sure exactly when or where we'll meet.

So far, the following have expressed interest: @klmyers, @AskishK, @wylbur, @maryannking, and @stpaultim (me).

Saturday 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Sorry, I got distracted.
Yes, it's a go.
Since we're only looking at about 5 people, I'd like to simply suggest that we meet in a coffee shop somewhere. I don't think we even need a separate room, just a big table where we can talk and help each other out.
Can someone name such a coffee shop in Lake / Lyndale area (or elsewhere)? I mostly frequent coffee shops in the East Metro.
SUMMARY: Meeting from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Saturday, in a location to be announced by 2:00 PM on Thursday. Most likely a coffee shop in the Lake / Lyndale area.

coffee
I'm not familiar with that area except I have been to Calhoun square which is just down from lyndale and they have coffee shops with large sitting areas in the mall -- but it can get noisy and parking is not free
I have met people at the egg & I -- cannot remember if it has wifi, but it is next door to intermedia so we might get on that --
I did a search -- but I must be very lame at finding the wifi labels -- I do have my hotspot which will take up to five computers -

Common Roots?
Common Roots, 26th and Lyndale -- http://www.commonrootscafe.com/ -- has wifi and great food and coffee. Their back room is already reserved for Saturday but you should be okay in the main room. Not sure how crowded they are on a Saturday...

Dunn Brothers - 530 Southeast University Avenue
Thanks Barry for the suggestion. I'm sitting at Common Roots right now and think it would work great if we didn't meet until 1:00 or 2:00. BUT, they are VERY busy at lunch and even busier on weekends (I'm told). In fact, they turn off their wireless on weekends from 10am - 1pm.
I'm going to suggest we go with the Dunn Brothers at 530 Southeast University Avenue. This is very accessible from 35W (just a few blocks off freeway). I know they are quite large and shouldn't have such an active "lunch" crowd.
As of this moment, here are the details:
(Look for us way in the back).
Open to beginners and advanced Drupal fans. It's pretty short for a sprint, but I see it as an opportunity to lay the groundwork for future CORE sprints.
Feel free to call me with any questions.

Yes. Events in Many Cities
Yes, there are sprint events happening in many US cities and around the world. This little event is just our chance to be part of something going on around the world.
If your in the Twin Cities, I hope you can come.
