Impromptu Drupal Users Group Meet-up Anyone?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I've gotta say, it's been a while since I've attended a MadDUG meetup but the Drupal User Group meetup this past Thursday in Madison, was really great. Great topics, great discussions, great ideas, methods, personal workflows, and was just a great time. Seeing lots of familiar faces at the meetup was nice and seeing many more new people there too made it even better. Thanks again to the DANEnet crew for the meeting set-up, wi-fi & av gear.

Now ... I know this is a Wisconsin group, not just a Madison, WI group however, seeing that the next MadDUG meeting

will not be for another month or so, perhaps there's an opportunity for an informal MadDug meet-up. I'm thinking informal, as in, low-key, coffee shop-style "Tips & Tricks"-kinda meet-up, perhaps some time in the evening during the week of October 19th...

At the very least. this could be another chance for local Drupal users of any skill level to grab the laptop and network with other Drupal users and/or Drupal designers, and/or Drupal developers.

The local Rails group has a similar style meet-up they call "Code'n'Coffee" but they're not always techy code sessions. The only draw back is that if any more than 5 or 7 people show up, it's quite easy to over-crowd a small coffee shop. I guess we can cross that line later if that's the case.

Who would be interested in such a meeting?

Cheers,
_rs

Apparently, DUG has an issue displaying tags to the point of making the page hard to read (on some browsers). Here they are in case you really want'em:

tags: code'n'coffee, coffee shop, Drupal User Group, friends, local networking, low-key, Madison Wisconsin, meeting, meetup, tips & tricks

I'm up for it.

Can't do Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Definitely

I'm definitely interested in getting together... In fact coffee and code was one of my favorite parts of MadRailers. I'd often go and work on drupal projects ;).

I'd probably suggest Barriques downtown, since they should have enough room...

Currently

I currently go to the Barriques by the Capital every Tue/Thur/Sun from 6-9 to work on iPhone development homework. Drupalers are more then welcome to join me.

I'm in!

If I'm free on the night you pick. Tues/Thur best for me.

Madison

I know this is a Wisconsin group, not just a Madison, WI group

Bah, might as well be. :P Come on, where's all the lefties around here? We need to get a user group going on this side of the state. :)

Michelle (La Crosse)

lefties?

dan_k's picture

Madison doesn't have lefties, it has white guilt poseurs who play State politics like every red county in the god-n-guns loving hinterlands: "screw Milwaukee" is the name of that game.

Yeah...

Of course Madison doesn't have lefties... Madison's practically in the middle of the state... I guess you'd be middlies? centeries? Heck, I don't know. I guess the whole left coast / right coast thing falls down in the middle. LOL!

Sorry, but you totally lost me with the rest of your sentence...

Michelangelo's

Michelangelo's has a back room that is good for larger groups as well. Module/theme hacking would be fun. I'm currently giving the 960 grids CSS framework another look and I sort of like it. If anyone had any experience using it, I would be very interested in seeing some demos.

I second the motion and move to call

I also like Michelangelo's:
+ Back room works well for laptop-toting groups
+ Parking ramp is a block away (on Carroll Street between E. Johnson & Dayton streets)
+ Being right off the square makes it centrally located for many MadDUG peeps (sorry Lefties & Righties)
+ Their coffee & chai is pretty good and so is the wifi
+ The only drawback is no AV...though I'd rather be part of a big group hanging out there drinking coffee, etc. but working in a smaller, uhh, subgroup.

Apparently I also like making lists ...

For reference, Michelangelo's Coffee House is located a block off the square at 114 State St, Madison, WI 53703.

Since the last MadDUG meeting was on a Thursday night, maybe this time its a Wednesday night (say 10/21 @ 7pm)? If you can attend, bring a friend (hmmm, adage or new slogan?).

I'm looking forward to this meeting as I could sure use some help getting my nested photo galleries working with a LightBox-type slideshow (instead of showing the image node & a bunch of ImageCache links). Anybody with crazy/mad-gallery-skillz out there able to attend?

Thoughts?

I will try to come

I don't know if I will be busy or not on the 21st, but I will try to make it.

I do know a bit about image galleries and themeing them.

Milwaukee iPhone User Group

In the hot 414 area and likely to be attended by numerous Drupalistas, Brennan Stehling has set up a monthly meeting of iphone users/developers/people who want to learn: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=123756069855&ref=mf
and http://www.theresgonnabesnacks.com/iMade/

It's also a second chance for those who aren't able to attend the first meetup.

Dates

RobAlex's picture

I was about to say that while switching days of the week has its advantages, it makes it harder for those who want to plan their schedules and allocate different days of the week to different groups or activities. Then I read above that someone couldn't come Thursdays. So, revolving days allows more people to participate but perhaps less often in some cases.
