Hi, I am doing a project for a marketing class in which we have to create a business plan for our company. So we have decided that we would want a Drupal website installed on our shared server hosted environment. In our business plan we plan on hiring a developer to install the Drupal website and incorporate the website design theme of our choice. I would like the developer to provide a training session so the company staff (probably 1 or 2 people). Based on the location, I imagine this training session would take 1-2 hours and be conducted online or via the phone (if possible).
How many hours do you estimate this would take and what would the hourly rate be? Would the developer bill a block of hours so any remaining hours be used in the future? Any help from you all would be most appreciated.

Pricing a Drupal Job
Pricing out a Drupal project requires more information than you have provided. The theme is simply the way the site looks, not the configuration that is required to create the site. Shameless plug here but if you go to http://www.amazon.com/Drupal-Guide-Planning-Building-Websites/dp/1118066..., you can take a look at the table of contents (don't buy the book if you don't want to) but take a look at the outline. It lists a lot of the topics that typically require planning.
Then, regarding training. Training for content developers or future site admins? Remote training is possible but the time for training will depend on the complexity of the site, it's features, what the users will need to be able to do, etc.
After a minimum of planning is done, pricing can range from $30/hr to $250/hr. Some bid hours, some big fixed price for the project. Be careful though. Ask for references. You'd be amazed how many people out there say they are Drupal developers when they really aren't.

Thank you for the prompt response. As for the training, the training would be for content developers, not site admins.
So the company for our project is a small business, 2-3 people. So the company would not be have serious web requirements other than a website (no blogging), and being able to create a few pages to describe their company background and services.
The website features would only include a contact form, and that form goes to an email address. It's a minimal website at the onset that does not have a substantial amount of technical requirements. I apologize if I was not very clear in my earlier posting....

Ah, that's simple enough. I had wanted to assume that but you know what happens when you assume ;-)
If you go with an existing free theme off of drupal.org and you already have a hosting environment, you could put that type of site together in a matter of a couple hours maybe, give or take. So assume 2 hours for the site and 1 hour for training.
This assumes you know the pages you want to build, you have selected your theme, and you don't want anything a Drupal module can't already do.
Now all you need to know is the rate per hour and that will vary, like I said. Here's a thought. You could sign up for ostraining.com and take their online tutorials and build the site yourself. Or try lynda.com. For what you want to do, these tutorials should work well and you'd save yourself some money.
