Travelling to DrupalCon Prague overland

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

DrupalCon Prague is a little way off yet but I'm already getting excited about it. I've been looking into the feasibility of travelling there by train from London. Here are the logistics for travelling from the UK via Cologne in Germany http://seat61.com/Czech.htm#Prague.

It sounds like a fun adventure to me! I wondered if anyone else was thinking about doing something similar. Perhaps we could hold DrupalCon's first international train sprint and call it "Drupal On Rails"?

Give me a shout if you want to shun Ryanair and doing some collaborative overland travel planning.

Nice!

Love it!

We could start from London (I'm in London too) and then pick people up along the way. Will be fun.

Like the name too :) Other ideas? Drupal/Druplicon Express? Drupal Tracks?

Yes, yes!
I'm definitely heading there by train, and I'm pretty sure a few of my colleagues at Agile Collective will be too.
The train to Copenhagen was fun, met a fair few Drupal people en route, but with a little organisation we could certainly make more of it.
I think Eurostar tickets can be booked 120 days in advance, but you may be able to book the European leg further in advance.

Sounds cool!

I'm up for the D-rail ;)

Hey Ed, I don't think my legs

Hey Ed,

I don't think my legs would last after sitting down for that long! Looks like you got a few joining you too which sounds positive.

If I change my mind nearer the time I will be in touch. Else Ryanair/Easyjet (with no positives to mention about that) here I come!

Hey all,

Great to hear that you're keen! I've been doing a little bit of research into routes and ticket prices. It looks as though the best way is via Brussels and Cologne and there's also the option of breaking the journey in Berlin. These two options look feasible:

** 1. Two dayer via Berlin **
Day 1: Depart London 10:58, code / prop up bar (changing in Brussels and Cologne), arrive Berlin 21:08.
Day 2: Leisurely breakfast in Berlin, depart at 10:46 and arrive in Prague at 15:26.

Here are some prices for this route I just grabbed from raileurope.co.uk and eurostar.com.
London - Berlin: £199
Berlin - Prague: £65
Total: £264 one way +over night accommodation in Berlin.

** 2. Riding the night train via Cologne **
Leave London after lunch on the 14:04
Arrive Cologne at 19:15 in time for an evening meal having changed in Brussels.
Get a 22:28 departure from Cologne to arrive in Prague at 9:16 the next day after a sleep in a couchette.

London - Cologne (via Brussels): £95.00
Cologne - Prague (in a 6 berth couchette): £129.00
Total: £224 one way.

The prices might not be that accurate - I just chose a weekday a couple of months in advance and searched for cheap tickets.
