March Meetup -- Date? Place?

Hello, all,

At the last meeting, we talked about setting a meeting place for future meetings. I talked with the folks at the Urban Grind NE about meeting there. The general manager there is a great guy, and he said he would be willing to stay open late (I mentioned 6-8 as possible meeting times, but we could probably shift that as needed) and let us hold the meetings for free in exchange for some help on their web site.

On a related note, he was also open to the idea of UG being a central place for a hackfest/code sprint during OSCON, if there was sufficient interest in that.

I'd like to suggest a meeting time in mid-March -- say the 15th? -- in this thread, we can also sort out any details about meeting places/times --

EDIT: March 6th -- Let's set the 15th, from 6 to 8. I'll stop by Urban Grind and firm this up. If this doesn't work for this month due to lack of advance notice, we'll find a different venue. But at least this way we're solid on the date. END EDIT

Cheers,

Bill

Sounds Great

I'm in, for the meeting (and the web site helping) (and the OSCON code sprint)

also March 15th seems like a good date

Also I am helping to coordinate OSCAMP this year, We could also add a Drupal /open CMS tract to that

Which Urban Grind?

As I am from Hillsboro, both locations listed on the Web site are "NE" to me. Or I could just be incredibly dense. Which one are you talking about--the one on Sandy or the one in the Pearl?

Thanks,

Margie

The one off Sandy

The one off Sandy, on NE Oregon.

Keep missing meetups due to schedule conflicts. Not going to let it happen again!

Urban Grind to stay open late just for us?

glendac's picture

I just visited the UG website and the Eastside hours show Mon-Fri 7am to 4pm. So they're going to open the coffee shop 6-8 pm just for our group? That would be very generous. I wasn't able to make it in past meetings but will do this time. Look forward to meeting you all.

Yes

That is one of the things we talked about -- they want to make connections within the local community.

They also want some help with their existing web site :)

Cheers,

Bill

Glad to help

I'd be able to help with their website. I had a very good job interview in Denver last month but the job went to a more experienced person so I'd welcome opportunities to gain experience. I'm trying my best to become an expert with Drupal and other web dev tools.

I'm psyched to meet at Urban

I'm psyched to meet at Urban Grind. That place is a great resource - the one thing holding them back is being closed in the evening, and I'd love to see them open for groups - they could host a rather large party there sometime

And their ideals are aligned with Open Source in general - they have a free Linux computers to surf the internet, and a book lending library that tends to have a couple of O'Reilly books in it.

I'm sure a projector could be used here..

And Beer. That's importaint.

When i first found it I was surprised at the location - a little off the beaten track, but a great place.
