Hi everyone,
Even though I was the one who started this group, I have simply not been able to participate due to being extremely busy at work. So huge thanks to Grant for taking the reigns.
I recently joined Acquia as a Technical Account manager and am finding I now have more time to participate. Have we stopped having meetups? How can I best help or assist what others are doing?
Steve

Hey, Steve! I haven't seen
Hey, Steve! I haven't seen regular meetups here recently but mrtoner started a poll to see where Inland Empire Drupal members would like to meet:
https://groups.drupal.org/node/300828
I've been working to line up a venue at UC Riverside and posted an update to the comments of that poll:

I'm hoping to have a meet and greet phone or video conference with our UCR contacts. Whether our first meeting happens by phone or video conference, or in person somewhere at UCR, I'd love to invite all meetup organizers who are interested in attending and organizing in the area to get to know each other.
Thanks Christefano
Thanks for the update. Still hoping to hear from the others who help to manage this group too.

There is a new co-working space in Riverside
If the UCR deal doesn't happen I suggest contacting riverside.io
They are on Meetup: http://www.meetup.com/Riverside-io-Coworking/
Just a thought. It's good to have options.

Thanks Larry. That is the
Thanks Larry. That is the venue I discussed with Don about. If you have contacts there, lets proceed with that.

State of IE Drupal
Hi Steve.
That is great you are interested in becoming proactive in the group. I've lead the group for the past two years off and on trying to keep it afloat. I live out in the OC and co/organize OCPHP and OC Drupal so I've tried and made the effort to drive to the monthly meetups. It would be great rather than to have remote organization, with individuals who so far have never attended or reached out to IE Drupal in the past, to have the group grow organically from the Inland Empire community. There is definitely a base out there and a Riverside location is more ideal. We tried Ontario (decent turnout) and Rancho Cucamonga (low turnout).
We actually would post on GDO and have a our own meetup page (http://www.meetup.com/inland-empire-drupal/). As well, we have a twitter @iedrupal for organizers use.
This is actually the very first I've heard anything about a venue being worked on behalf of IE Drupal nor really hearing any outside offers to assist the growth of the group. There a more ideal venue in Riverside to pursue than UCR. I've discussed this with Don (mrtoner) recently and he is aware of venue.
Definitely DM the current organizers on meetup as that likely will be a quicker route to handle any transition (http://www.meetup.com/inland-empire-drupal/suggestion/)

Thanks for the update! I
Thanks for the update! I responded to mrtoner's poll back in May with enthusiastic support but didn't receive any response at all. So I, too, was wondering about the state of IE Drupal.
Without any recent activity, I've been moving forward and posting updates on plans for a Riverside meetup, but am very happy to work with others.
The flurry of activity here definitely shows that this group is alive and kicking.
Victor Hill, our contact at UCR, is also involved with Riverside.io. I hadn't noticed the connection before. Which do you all think is a better venue, and why?
Thanks and pursuing Riverside.io till further notice
We had a meetup in April so wouldn't really call the group dormant. We simply lost the venue (the guy let his lease go) and I became busy. Plus, with the poll, it has come to the point where I really don't pay any attention to GDO messages as sometimes they flooded my inbox. So, didn't realize there was a poll or this discussion going on until Don told me about it at last week's OC Drupal. Also, throwing out, we know each other, if you were wondering about state of IE -- free to email me directly anytime.
I came in contact with the folks at Riverside.io and as active organizer, I'm moving forward with that. I am currently planning on meeting one of the founders in person at this Weds' OCPHP meetup. Thanks for the effort with UCR and that would be a great backup location should Riverside.io falls through. Much like your Droplabs, Riverside.io is a co-working and is founded by the community. It makes logical sense that IE Drupal attempts to join that community. Founders of it are involved of StartupIE and RiversideJS so would be great a member base with potential for joint meetups.

We both seem to have the interest and the time, so why not work together? I've been pretty transparent with what I've been doing, but if you think you're doing "a better job" (in air quotes since this isn't a competition) and don't want any support then I'll leave it in your hands.
If you want some support, let me know. We know each other, as you say, so feel free to contact me, as well.
What's important to me is that meetups start happening in Riverside and I'm happy to help make that happen. When I saw no meetups since April, the poll in May, and a lack of response to my posts, I took that to mean there was no activity. I'm glad to see that's not the case.
Great, thanks Christefano
Great. Thanks for the support and adding the air quotes humor! Once I have a date lined up for August with the potential Riverside.io, can you attend and present? Nothing better to grow group interest than to have a great presentation.
Co/Organizer @ Orange County PHP | OC Drupal | Inland Empire Drupal
Thanks for the invitation.
Thanks for the invitation. I'd love to present in Riverside, but just need to know the dates in advance. There are many evenings in August when I'm not available but the August 7th and 14th dates you mentioned both work for me.
Meanwhile, I'll continue lining up UCR as a potential venue if and when Riverside.io is unavailable. I heard that Riverside.io just finished painting this weekend and has a launch event on August 6th. (Sadly, I'm already booked for the Downtown Drupal meetup that evening. Have fun without me!)
Meetup Weds Aug, 14th
Thus far, meetup will be Weds Aug 14th at Riverside.io. Let me know if you are available to travel out to present. Thanks.

Definitely, count me in. I'm available to travel out and present.
About the delay, I thought I'd already confirmed I was available that date. Sorry for not being more clear. I'm looking forward to seeing you and a bunch of new faces!
I'll update everyone here when I settle on a presentation topic. There are a few to choose from.
Will the August 14th meetup
Will the August 14th meetup announcement be posted here on Drupal Groups?
For a presentation, I'd like to offer a talk on Drupal frontend performance and scalability. I just gave this talk at another meetup this week, which gave me a chance to dust off the slides and make sure that they're current.
This talk can be as short as 30 minutes, but I can also fill 45 minutes if it works with the rest of the meetup schedule.
IE Drupal Meetup Posted
Thanks again for presenting. 30 min should work. New venue so gives time for everyone to arrive & get situated along with time for questions afterwards.
The meetup has been posted and updated on meetup.

Hi William
Thanks for the contact William. I rsvp'd for the next meetup and am planning to be there.
Please consider any resource I have at Acquia to be at your disposal. Otherwise will plan to attend and just learn about our local group and how it works.
Thanks!

Riverside.io
Just wanted to note that, unless something changed in the last month, Riverside.io doesn't have a co-working space. They're currently meeting at a coffee shop each month to work toward that end, but their one promising space fell through in June.
There are plenty of meeting places in the Inland Empire, finding one is not the issue. The "consensus" on the poll seems to be Riverside; UCR is good choice and I've reached out to Mike Kennedy, an IT manager there who is also a member of this group and of Riverside.io. I'll let you know what comes of it.
I recieve riverside.io's newsletter and follow their tweets
Here is an excerpt of the newsletter I recieved on JUly 20th:
The Location
We settled on a location in downtown Riverside. It's right next to the new Prohibition Restaurant and just across from the Mission Inn.
It has high ceilings, a Main Street address (3567 Main St, Riverside, CA), big windows, is near great restaurants and bars, and will have 24 hour access to members!

Thanks Larry
Thanks Larry! So far, planning on meeting with Scotty Motte at the OCPHP meetup this Weds. I'll talk to him and get this mystery hopefully solved and keep you guys updated on the status of an actual suite existing.
Thanks everyone for kicking up the dust and getting the group talking.
Aug 7 or 14th? -- what ever works best for those who plan to attend. Lets get on calendar despite location up in air to garner local support and get an idea of potential attendance. If no one presents, I can come up with something if need be.
Co/Organizer @ Orange County PHP | OC Drupal | Inland Empire Drupal
Just a little passive aggressive there, Larry...
...but, yes, I just got the notice myself. Sorry, but as of the last meeting I attended the first of June, things weren't looking particularly good. I'll talk to Ben (also a member of IE Drupal) and see if they'd like to sponsor our meeting space.
Status of Riverside.io
Hello everyone! I am Benjamin, one of the founding members of Riverside.io and just wanted to pop in and clear up a few questions about the status of our group.
It is true, we are opening a space in Downtown Riverside on Aug. 6th. As of June, we still did not have a space so we decided to make it our goal to find a smaller space by July. The space we found will be temporary until we can open a much larger location in the very near future.
Our group is nonprofit so we are committed to reaching out to local tech groups, like IE Drupal, and helping them grow. So in short, Riverside.io would love to host IE Drupal for as long as you need!
Thanks Benjamin
Thanks Benjamin for clearing everything up about the space. IE Drupal definitely looks forward to working with Riverside.io and building community synergy
