The site I've been working on is getting close to completion, huzzah! I'm having loads more success with Zoundation; thanks very much to the funny monkeys et al.

Short of buying most of my co-workers a MacBookAir, how would you approach the discrepancies between the two screen captures shown? For example, the graphics missing from MSIE8 are all SVGs.

Would you toss an alternative theme at the MSIE 8 crowd?
Would you add modernizr tests?
Or is there a better approach that hasn't occured to me?

TIA

It's hard

Providing non-broken pages to IE8 is pretty hard if you didn't continually test on IE8 throughout the development process. An alternative theme is a possible route, but even once you get it done, maintenance could easily become a nightmare.

We often decide at the outset of a project which browsers we'll support, and then use https://drupal.org/project/happybrowser to send too-old IE's to a special page designed just for them, encouraging them to upgrade. That's my module that meets our needs (we typically just happybrowser IE6 or 7); there are a few other options out there.

If IE8 users are not that important to you, I'd recommend that you encourage them to upgrade. Or even install Google Chrome Frame for IE!

Thanks for the reply. It turns out most of my co-workers are not stuck with MSIE 8 after all, so it is less of a problem than I originally thought. Most of them get updates pushed to them. MSIE 10 FTW, sort of. =)

I may still make use of Browscap and Switchtheme for our people in the mission field who visit with who knows what antiquated technology.
