Hey,
I was considering getting involved in updating this site: http://geograph.ie/ and thought moving it to Drupal would be a good idea.
How massive a task is this ?
I posted in the migration group but the tumbleweed is still blowing.
thanks
Ian
Also, is the Galway meet still happening ? I might drop by.

Hey Ian,
It's not too large a task at all if you are familiar with views and one of the mapping modules...
I have used open layers and leaflet and both work very well.
Openlayers struggles some with large volumes of markers so if you intend to display a lot of markers I would suggest using leaflet with the geocluster module which clusters on the server side rather than The client side so map pages load quicker.
If you use geocluster, try drush when installing as there are instructions in the documentation to make it handier...some of the dependencies need certain patches...and with drush you can install the patched versions of the modules from the geocluster module page...
I've successfullly loaded 5000+ markers without geocluster so it depends on your needs...

Somehow missed this on the radar
Hi Ian
Yep, Drupal could handle this.
We've used migrate module to handle large datasets from a wide variety of other sources - it can be done.
The Galway meetup is on hiatus - but with enough interest, we could get it running again.
