Hi all -

My good friend Anna is organizing this event and I thought it might be up your alley. It's a Squakathon: A flock of nerds saving seabirds! If you are interested in lending a hand, see: http://squawkathon.org/

THE PROBLEM
Seabird bycatch is when birds are unintentionally captured and killed because of longline fishing. Birds take the line bait and are dragged into the water to drown. Bycatch is always bad, but for endangered species with already vulnerable populations, it’s devastating. But there is hope. Better data collection could lead to better longterm management and protection protocols. We need to find an ingenious way to track this bycatch. And we think you can help. Somewhere, there’s a feathered friend who will thank you for it.

WHY ME?
If you have an industrial design, UX design, programming, strategy, or project management background and care deeply about beautiful flying squawky things, you’re an essential addition. Plus you’ll be surrounded by lots of other smart, dedicated eco-dreamers. It’ll be a lot of fun.

Otherwise I'd love to be involved. Will there be any satelites? IRC, Google Hangouts, for those of us not in Oregon?
