Needing basic info on Drupal 8 services features and capabilities

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

My name is Jamie. A colleague and I are writing a book on Drupal and its value as a development platform (here). I am currently working on a chapter related to REST services and using Drupal as a RESTful backend for other applications, including mobile apps, etc.

I'd like to add a section on REST-related enhancements coming in Drupal 8, along with some code samples and screenshots, but after trolling around the net for a while, I can't seem to find any real evidence of work in this regard. I think the Drupal 7 REST support is ok, but also not very RESTful. I would like to showcase any improvements coming in Drupal 8 - especially given that our book won't be published until later this year (2013).

Is there anyone I can communicate with - either email, phone call, or via this forum - that can help me understand the feature enhancements and related REST support improvements coming in Drupal 8? No doubt I will be setting up a Drupal 8 system shortly, but a "sales pitch" from some key players within the WSCCI initiative would be awesome and really help us sell Drupal as a services backend in our upcoming book.

Thanks for you time,
jamie

Larry, the WSCCI initiative lead, pinged me about this. Klaus Purer and I have been working on the REST and serialization parts of Drupal 8.

Klaus and I gave a session at DrupalCon Portland, which I subsequently gave at DrupalDevDays Dublin and NYC Camp, and which we will be giving again at Prague. I believe there are recordings of all of these which should be online.

Some of the details have changed in the configuration since the last time it was delivered. We are currently in the process of updating the slides, which are available at:

Thanks for the info,

Thanks for the info, linclark. I really appreciate it!

I'm sure I'll have a few questions after I go through the slides and videos. Stay tuned:)
