Hello Drupal Community and DrupalCon Teams!
It has taken longer than originally expected, but finally after long and careful deliberation, we, the selection taskforce committee, recommend Copenhagen for the DrupalCon 2010. The commitment and relentless enthusiasm of the Danish team during the evaluation process gave us also full confidence that they are ready to organize a DrupalCon that rocks in the 9 months that is left.
It was a tough decision since we had to choose between 3 great proposals by 3 strong communities. This translated into narrow margins between the scorecard results for the 3 cities for several of the evaluators. You can find the scorecards attached to this post to see how we evaluated the cities.
So what will happen next? The DA board has a meeting planned on December 3rd. We hope they will agree with our recommendation and vote to have Drupalcon 2010 in Copenhagen so that if all goes well, we'll have an official announcement few days after that.
For 2011, we haven't reached a decision yet, as there is a very narrow margin between the scores for the remaining two cities, Berlin and London. We've got a preliminary evaluation but there are some variables that we need to sort out. In order to do so, we would like the 2 leads from each team to get in touch with Isabell from the taskforce to organise a conference call with us. This will give you another opportunity to impress, and will help us to reach a decision before the end of this year.
We apologize for the delay of our recommendation for 2010. To be able to evaluate the three nominations, we needed further information on the venues even though this was not a requirement for the call (e.g. we specifically asked teams not to negotiate with venues). Practically this meant we had to ask Blue Project to investigate venues in Copenhagen for us, so we could a.s.a.p. reach a decision for 2010.
Transparency is important for us, that is why we started the public selection process this year with open proposals, why we had a public poll for the most popular venue and why we encouraged and took part in the public IRC chats with all 3 contending teams. This being the first time we do things this way we hope that you'll bear with us while we further finetune the process. Next year, we'll be able to avoid some of the mistakes we made this time.

We are honored!
I know i speak for the rest of the Copenhagen proposal group.
That we truly are honored that you chose the CPH proposal.
We have a lot todo, so even that its not final we will begin the work asap.

Still pending board meeting
Do note (I'm sure you know this) that the scorecards are a recommendation to the Drupal Association Board of Directors, and they need to vote and approve before it's totally final.
We are 100% aware of that
We are 100% aware of that Robert :-) We will just start looking at some of things, so we don't loose 1-2 more weeks. If DA choose Berlin or London for 2010 instead, then will these things just be used for the Drupal Camp in Copenhagen in May instead.
but the clock is ticking
we are aware that the DA have to vote and all that...
A lot of time have been "lost", so we need to get into gear if we wanna have a chance to get the ball rolling in the tempo we wanna have it in.
If it should end with the DA going another way, well so be it - we have a camp in may, that need the same amount love. So the work wont be lost ( but we have to invade a continent or 2 though )
So yes we are aware of it, but we simply wont , and cant, sit down and wait longer ;)

Honoured indeed…
As chairman of Drupal Danmark, I can only repeat Morten's sentiments. We are thrilled and honoured to receive the recommendation of the task force.
However, December 3rd is a couple of weeks away, so we are not quite sure of this, but if we do get the approval of the DA, I'd just like to encourage our German friends to press on – 2011 is not settled yet :)
Congratulations!
Congratulations to the Danish team - like everyone else, I can't wait to see how much Copenhagen rocks!
hope I'm allowed to reproduce

Have you evaluated the same cities?
In a transparent process, we would have the names of the evaluators, not "evaluator 1, 2, 3, 4". Looking at this quickly, we can wonder if the same cities were evaluated:
(is that a yes/no, or a 3/2/1/0 question?)
(so... are those venues accessible or not?)
(agreement for London, but it appears that Copenhagen and Berlin are either very easily accessible or very poorly accessible...)
Next stop, the board meeting early December. I can't wait.

scorecards
All 4 members of the selection task force have filled out their scorecards using their personal pre-knowledge and the information that was provided during the application process. It is only natural that there will be differences in opinion.
Everybody was free to choose the scoring system for the different questions (e.g. yes/no <> 1,2,3), and yes there are differences, but since we don't count up scores between evaluators this doesn't matter.
The purpose of the task force and the scorecards is to give an informed multi-faceted recommendation, not to compare evaluators.

Yay Copenhagen!
It's no secret that Copenhagen is one of my all-time favorite cities, so I'll be thrilled to get my Drupal on there in 2010!
Morten, Mikkel: let me know if you need anything from "down south" in Teutonia.
Cheers,
Huzzah!
I have never been to Denmark or Copenhagen, but have heard only the most wonderful things. Also, it will be fantastic to experience the hospitality of the King. Hopefully we can stock up on some goodwill by doing a great job in SF!

I love CPH - but ...
... but it's not over yet ,-)
Congratulation CPH for the recommendation.
A short update from the local team in berlin/germany.
Update to the possible location TU-Berlin: since we missed the deadline end of october, i had a short talk to my contact person. She confirmed that we can get the location in september 2010 to the known conditions - but we have to book soon.
all members of the local user group are ready to start the organisation of the con as soon the decision for drupalcon 2010 in germany is made.
so - there are more than 9 month before the show begins and we think this is enough time to make a really good con.
if the DA needs further arguments pro berlin/germany please give me a call (00491775001112) or send me an email (stephan@luckow.org)
