As another year of Drupal meetups draw to a close, to everyone involved.. the jesters, snack makers, beer bringers, insightful speakers and the attendees, thank you.
This was a very successful year and we could see the group grow by leaps-and-bounds. This year we took a slightly different approach to the meetups, utilising a project(Agora) for structure and still allocating enough time for the controlled chaos of the usual un-conference session. We covered allot of topics including:
- Project Management: Agile and SCRUM
- Git versioning and Github
- Better dev workflow with Vagrant and Chef
- Better themes with SASS
- Drupal as a data-store with AngularJS
- Workflow automation using Node.js, Grunt and Bower
- Responsive web design
- A deeper look into Drupal Security
- REST-full web services
- Drush
- Mobile apps using Drupal and PhoneGap
- Introduction to Drupal 8, with all the new bells and whistles
Next year we'll take that idea further, with even more Drupaly goodness and a stronger focus on Git, PhoneGap, Vagrant, Testing with TDD/BDD, performance, security, workflow and automation. The aim, to build, grow and polish the Agora project as our first Drupal Meetup JHB built initiative.
Some stats from the years meetups:
Total samies consumed: 187
Total beers consumed: 126
Total soft-drinks consumed: 88
Average meetup size: 18
Largest meetup size: 29
Happy holidays, and see everyone next year!

Absolutely Loved the Johannesburg Meet-ups
I can't tell you just how much the Johannesburg meet-ups helped me and astounded me in their value. Great friends, a supportive community and the nature of the meet-ups are academic and communal.
It's been awesome getting to know everyone and learning so much from you. All of you. This adds so much value to my Drupal work and for all the Drupal shops out there. Asking your employees to join us will be incredibly valuable for your company. This is where you both skill up and measure your own abilities to see if you're on a future-proof learning path.
And it is free!
