We've got a new(ish) Drupal multiple choice test and would love some feedback!

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hi guys -- I posted this over on the general section but figured I'd drop it here for some local love just in case. We're over here in the chilly South End and would love to tap in to Boston's awesome tech community. If you're in the mood we'd live the help!

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

So over here at Smarterer we've set out to create multiple choice assessments that help gauge how well a user knows a certain skill in under 3 minutes. We create these tests by starting with experts or other professionals in the field, and then letting our users add questions of their own. Right now we'd really like our Drupal test to be the absolute best it can be, and that means we need as many pros as possible to give it a run through.

If you'd like to check out our test it would be HUGELY appreciated!

You do need to sign in with an email or social media network, but we promise not to send out any spam emails. In fact, if you happen to get any unwanted emails I'd be happy to sort it out personally if you contact joe@smarterer.com

Here's the link to the test: http://smarterer.com/tests/drupal

If you see a question that's not up to snuff (or a question that you really like!) the best way to leave feedback is through our in-test commenting feature. I get notified whenever someone leaves a note and I'd make edits you recommend shortly after they come in.

Again I can't thank you enough if you're up to taking this short test.

If you have any questions at all I'd be happy to answer :)

Thanks!

I vehemently detest tests to determine a skill set. I especially think they're lame to determine employment eligibility. That said, I took your test.

On initial review, the questions are either annoying or so easy they just determine if you know the mere basics of Drupal at all.

Questions about where to access certain parts of drupal are annoying. Memorizing a path... that doesn't tell me anything.

Question about a themplate for comments in D6... I don't care if you don't know the answer to that, any moron can google that answer, and while it may take longer than your timer, they'd still get the job done.

Overall, I'd trash pretty much everything I saw and focus on conceptual questions to verify if some one at least gets the concept. I know plenty of themers who are highly coveted as employees who don't memorize paths.

Thanks for answering, Jesse!

You bring up very valid points that I'll definitely send around to the team (we're only 9 people strong right now so it will be seen by us all ;) )

While the easy questions can be annoying it's important to have a wide range of difficulty levels of both the experts and newbies can be assessed appropriately.

Honestly, I agree with memorization questions being unimportant, same for out of date questions (though that's really a matter of house cleaning.) We're trying out different approaches to optimal skill assessment, and we'll absolutely take conceptual questions into consideration moving forward.

In your opinion do you believe this conceptual questions can be fairly translated to a multiple choice assessment? Improving our question quality is our #1 goal (trust me, improving our existing content has eaten up nearly all of my working time) and I'd love to find a way to add these to our test.

Thanks again for running through the test, even if it wasn't your cup o' tea. It helps round out our algorithm and the feedback is super important for my job personally.
