User group meeting
We hope you can join us for the next meeting of the Spokane Day-Time Drupal Learning and Co-Working Group!
- When
- Thursday, January 9, 2014, 10 AM to noon
- Where
- Spokane County Library - Argonne branch, 4322 N. Argonne Road, Millwood. We meet in the large conference room - enter from the door out in the hallway before you go into the area with the books
- What
- Learning and "co-working" time - bring your laptop! Come with a project you're working on, a desire to volunteer to improve Drupal in some way (documentation, programming, design, marketing etc.), a question about Drupal you would like to get an answer to, or a desire to help others with their projects and questions. Or just come and listen and observe.
- Who
- Everyone is welcome -- the only prerequisite is having some interest in Drupal. This group is small and friendly, and consists mostly of people using Drupal in their work who prefer to meet during the workday to share knowledge about Drupal, and you're welcome to join us! Experience levels of attendees typically covers everything from novice to expert, so you'll fit right in.
Note: If you'd like to have a meeting at another time that is more convenient for you, please feel free to organize it! See http://groups.drupal.org/node/161584 for a Wiki where people have listed when would be convenient for them to have meetings.

Recording meetings
At our November meeting, we discussed whether it might be possible to record our meetings. I'm going to see what I can do about that -- at least recording a screen grab of what goes up on the projector should be possible, probably plus audio. Hopefully I'll get something together before the January meeting -- I have software installed on my desktop machine that does this, and I just need to test it out on my laptop.

Should be able to record!
I hope everyone's new year is starting out well -- our next meeting is a week from today and I hope to see you there!
I made some time today to install some screen recording software on my laptop, and tested it, so I should be able to make a recording of whatever we cover in next week's meeting. Of course, recording is one thing and making the video available is another. Any suggestions on that?
Probably YouTube is the best bet... but it looks like the video might need to be broken down to 15-minute chunks, which is actually not the worst idea anyway. Well, we'll see.

No recording, but here are some notes
I had some "technical difficulties" making a recording of the meeting today, but here are some notes:
We spent most of the time talking about some ways to customize the display and theming of your Drupal site.
Chris (welcome Chris!) suggested people look at Foundation, which is a responsive front-end framework that you can use to greatly increase your front-end development efficiency:
http://foundation.zurb.com
with a Drupal theme
https://drupal.org/project/zurb-foundation
Also we talked about SASS, which is a pre-compiler for CSS:
http://sass-lang.com/guide
And we discussed a couple of interesting Drupal modules:
Fences - lets you decide what HTML element to use to render your content fields: https://drupal.org/project/fences
Display Suite - gives you more options for placement of your content fields: https://drupal.org/project/ds
Panels - lets you place blocks etc. on pages of your site and change layouts for certain pages: https://drupal.org/project/panels
Field Collection - lets you make "compound" fields https://drupal.org/project/field_collection
And an installation profile:

Sorry for missing (Again). It
Sorry for missing (Again). It just didn't get into my calendar. Next one is in and I hope to bring some co-workers!
Thank you for posting notes, it makes me feel like I was there!
Thanks...
Thanks for sharing your notes so that those of us that were unable to make it wouldn't completely miss out!
