Hi,
It has been a few years since I tried to get a group meeting together. There is a drupal user in Tahoe who uses this CMS for a resort website. What we need is someone who can give a talk. Or, a organized carpool to the Sacramento meeting. The Sac meeting is usually a Wednesday night, so it would require some pre planning.
So, in the past the group met at the RT pizza in the old town mall.
I'll likely be moving back up this summer and would be interested in attending meetings.
Reno Collective is a good place to hold meetings, they host other usergroups. Carpool to Sacramento meetings is an interesting option as well. Would rotating meeting locations through Reno, Truckee, Tahoe, and Carson attract more participation or just make it harder to get a core group together?
I am definitely interested in meeting up. I am in North Lake Tahoe, so I'm interested in rotating the location to Reno, Truckee, Tahoe, and Carson, as well.
Regarding topics, I'm not sure what I could personally contribute (maybe I'd feel more comfortable contributing down the road), but my general areas of interest are site building, Drupal-related business topics, project management, front-end, or pretty much anything Drupal-related.
I'll be passing through various areas of Reno/Tahoe and Sacramento en route to visit Google. I'm going to the bay area to meet the Google Code-In students that worked for Drupal. I can talk about Code-In/Summer of Code or numerous Drupal topics from community building with social networks to system administration or experience managing major projects. Wednesday April 9th or Thursday April 10th?

Ok,
I propose April 10th at 6:00pm?
I propose for the first meeting in a while, start in Reno, then CC, then LT, then Tr and see how the turn out is.
A list of places to meet in each location would help us all.
Where is the 'Reno Collective'?
I am most likely not going to make it as my work schedule has me out of town every other 3 weeks.

I am at the Reno Collective and can facilitate a get together at the Reno Collective if enough are interested. We can do one in March as well and discuss:
Drupal best practices
Modules short list
Module evaluation criteria, what do you look for when deciding to install a new module
Any of these topics I can speak a little bit on. I think the value would be in discussing what each of us like to use as "Do's and Don'ts"

Hi,
My work does not allow me to be more hands on with organizing the Drupal meetups.
So I propose that the meetings be each 'second Thursday' of the month. For now the first two could be at the 'Reno Collective' at 6:00pm, if that poster can take care of those details.
At the first two meetings it would be good if a location rotation schedule is prepared and someone starts lining up talks. I might be able to make the March meeting but will not be able to make the April meeting.
Second Thrusday works for me. This means that the next one will be Thursday March 13th at the Reno Collective. I have cleared it with the folks at the Reno Collective. We will have a meeting at 6pm.
The address is:
100 N Arlington Ave
Suite 100
Reno, NV 89501
For whatever reason, most GPS systems put you on a wild goose chase with this address. The Reno Collective is located in downtown Reno at the corner of First Street and N Arlington Ave.
I can make Thursday, March 13, 6 p.m. at Reno Collective.
Greg, would this work?
I like the every second Thursday idea.
I can get the Tahoe/Truckee folks informed if they're not following this already. I don't have much experience lining up talks for meetups, so it would be great to hear others' experience at the first meetup.
I think the best way to line up Drupal talks is through discussion. My guess is that we all an area of Drupal that we are good at, from basic to potentially complex. Discussing the areas that we want to learn more about to identify topics someone can discuss is a simple way forward.
For example, if a few people would like to implement the Calendar and Date API modules (but have not done it yet) can voice their opinion on the topic. It would then be up to someone to volunteer to take on the topic to go over it (or learn it and present a "how to" on the subject with a demo site).
There is a ton of Drupal functionality to go over, setting up Views for example. Someone can talk about the Views module and the cool related modules, such as Views Slideshow. At a minimum, we can select a topic with a video series (such as Drupal Commerce) and go through it together and set up the modules on a demo site.

There is a slightly better than 50/50 chance for me. Sorry I can't be more committed but it all comes down to whether the wife and I can hand off the kiddo between our respective jobs. Midweek meetings starting prior to 7pm are always dicey for me.
I do want to confirm others will be attending, as well. I'm paying a babysitter to watch one of my kids for the meetup, so it would be nice to do this knowing there will be a meeting.
It looks like I will be able to attend. Is there a preference for next time at 7:00pm? Maybe it is too late this time to make a change. I will not be able to attend the April meetup.
Do we have someone to talk, or will it be more of a meet and greet?
Anyone fresh from the recent LA area Drupal camp?
I am still early on the Drupal curve. I did html in the late 90's, and some asp pages in the early 2000's.
I am currently working on a 'blog' page, and a 'web photo gallery' page. All design must be 'mobile' ready. Also very interested in forms of CAPTCHA. Oh, and ecommerce,...
My time doesn't allow me to spend as much as I would like on this.

For captcha, check out Mollom. It is developed and maintained by one of the key developers of the Drupal system so you know the integration is going to be tight. Also check out Antispam. Both are "smart" filters. CATPCHA and ReCAPTCHA don't do much more than toss a graphic on each and every protected form and even then, they do not discern between human and bot based on typing patterns. The smarter bots already know how to bypass plain CAPTCHA and are not stopped.

April 10, 6 pm works for me
That date and time work for me.
If that works for everyone, I'll work on getting the word out in Tahoe/Truckee.
Maybe we can see who shows up to the first meetup, where they're based, and determine location rotation at that point?
Reno Collective is on Arlington. I don't know much about their setup, how to get in, etc. I'm open to RT if that worked in the past.

Hey Jesse,
I think Greg had suggested the following as topics:
All pretty general, but I'm guessing we should definitely spend some time on meet and greet and determining topics and locations for future meetups.

Meet and Greet
I agree, I think we should focus on meet and greet, discuss best practices and perhaps some modules. See where it goes.
I have no objection to 7pm next time. The schedule is set flexibly for 6 pm on the 13th.

meet and greet
I can attend. My understanding is 6pm at reno collective.
