List of Twin Cities Drupal consultants

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

At today's Twin Cities Drupal Open House there were a few requests for a list of Twin Cities Drupal consultants. There have also been discussions about having a TCDrupal.org site with more information and functionality. That site could easily have a directory - which would work much better than, say, making a list in a post here on g.d.o. which soon rolls off the group homepage and therefore becomes unfindable, un-updated and therefore, essentially useless.

Barry, Peter and I chatted briefly about this and decided to post that idea here for public comment. Are you interested in such a list? Would you want to be on one? What's the best place/format for such a thing?

I'm very excited to keep talking about this.

Today we had a session to talk about Drupal freelancers in the Twin Cities and how we can share resources and work together as a larger body on projects that may be too cumbersome for individuals.

For more infromation, check out my other post: https://groups.drupal.org/node/411348.

I'd like to see this happen and would be happy to help figure out the best way to make it happen.

The biggest problem is keeping such a list up-to-date. On online directory that requires those listed to post updates to stay current, might be useful.

I think a new TC Drupal website might host such a list - or there might be any existing website/service that offers this possibility if we simply promote it locally.

Count me in for hosting the web site unless someone else is stepping up to the plate -- I've done these sorts of directories before. Also - note that we DO have some control over the groups web pages (well, Barry and I do anyway) and Barry has recently put iN an event listing block on the page, so events really ARE available as a side block. I'm at the moment mulling over some more changes to the GDO pages that might be more effective - it's all panels based and it's not too painful to for example create more pages as well as change the home page. I'm open to suggestions.

We've talked a few times

We've talked a few times about working on the root www.tcdrupal.org site to provide such a listing. I had a conversation with David about that yesterday and mentioned it in a community session as well. If anyone wants to work on this let me know.

We'd talked before about trying to schedule some sprints to build it out. Now that we have some more consistent branding for the group, some of that might be easier.

We've been hosting the tcdrupal.org domain for some time, and the camp websites as well. We're happy to continue doing so and I can see about helping out with a site build too or participating in sprints as long as there is interest and motivation in the community. That portal could also be a good central place for handling any governance discussions coming from Tim's exploration of nonprofit status or setting up an organizing/governance structure.

Right now I just have tcdrupal.org redirecting to the current camp website. I can update the provisioned site there to be a current D7 instance if we really want to get this going.

I am interested in such a list and am willing to help in the build, etc.

Quick notes: I'd be willing

davidneedham's picture

Quick notes:

  • I'd be willing to help plan this new site.
  • As much as I like community effort, we should discuss having this site first created by a single entity (for money) rather than everyone who volunteers. I get the feeling we may end up with something a little more solid / maintainable.
  • Agencies / shops / Drupal service providers should be listed as well, but separately from the contractors / freelancers. In an attempt to limit the list to those who contribute to Drupal and are active in some way, I'd consider a first requirement that the shop have an official d.o drupal marketplace listing.
  • Anyone who has a listing should be reminded by the drupal site periodically to keep their listing active. Maybe something similar to Build A Module's mentor listing, where you have to log in and click a link that says you're active.
  • In the end, I think each listing should lean heavily on the d.o profiles of each person / company. Make d.o the canonical source (as limited as it may be) so that our local listings are more easily maintainable. A first step may be using that module that lets people log in & sync data from their d.o account.

Since there is already a de

Since there is already a de facto list in the user registrations that are formed as part of the TC Drupal Camp, and since we really want everyone to be able to modify their profiles... would it make sense to use that as a starting point, and perhaps have that turn into the directory? I feel like this might be an option?
