UPGRADE ALL THE THINGS!
With Drupal 8 steaming ahead and peeking over the horizon, it seems like now would be a good time to talk about upgrading our contrib (and even custom) modules to D8. You are in luck! This month Jakob Perry will give a talk on tools to help the upgrade process, and how you can get involved.
As usual, we have pizza and beer starting at 6pm (pizza sponsored by Metal Toad, beer from OpenSourcery). Right around 6:30 or so, we'll get on with the presentation. Afterwards, we'll make our way to the Lucky Lab on NW 19th & Quimby for further socializing and whatnot.
See you at OpenSourcery (NW 16th & Lovejoy) for #PDXDUG.

I really hope you're right in
I really hope you're right in saying this...
Last I delved into Drupal 8 just three months ago to take a walk around, the core had changed so much in the past few months that every single tutorial on how to create a basic custom module along with the tutorials sample code was non-functioning and inaccurate.
That was enough to leave me wondering about the wisdom of porting anything over to D8 just yet.

As always you can checkout
As always you can checkout the Examples project for a few clues:

We're a bit behind on migrating to D8, but there's some relevant stuff.
Also, I took some notes about upgrading SimpleTest: https://drupal.org/node/2166895 Upgrade the test first so it fails, then make it pass by upgrading everything else. :-)
