Event type:
Drupalcamp or Regional Summit

Drupal Camp Sydney 2014 is being held over two days in the Blue Mountains on the weekend of 28th - 29th June. Make the trip up the mountains to share a weekend with fellow Drupal enthusiasts sharing their knowledge and ideas.

The venue is the YHA Katoomba which is conveniently located just down from the main drag and easy walking distance to the Three Sisters, the station, restaurants and other local attractions.

The location of the camp is a large single room which can easily accommodate 40 people. There are "cozy corner" couches to chill out on, a hackers area for coding, a presentation area with projector and a kitchen which we have to ourselves. We have access to the room 24/7 so it is available for late night hack fests if you are up for that kind of thing. In short it is a great space which we can make our own.

So far we have the following presentations lined up:

  • Speaking the same language: Beyond testing with BDD and Behat (Boris Gordon)
  • Dealing with data: fields, entities and relationships (Anton Baggerman)
  • Creating custom layouts with Panels without pulling your hair out! (Magda Kostrzewa)
  • Running the Drupal Stack in Docker (Marji Cermak)
  • Turning Missing Pieces into Building Blocks: Introduction to Problem-Solving & Solution Architecture in Drupal (Ryan Cross)
  • Drupal 8 Outtathabox (Donna Benjamin)
  • Image management And Drupal (Peter Moulding)
  • Drupal 7 theming with Template Field Variables
  • BOF on Drupal Performance (Tine Sørensen)
  • Infrastructure and Services (Phil Ingram)

We've also got a small army of helpers lined up to answer all your Drupal questions.

You can make a weekend of it by booking accommodation for you and your family at the YHA. Please book your accommodation early to avoid disappointment.

The Drupal Camp Sydney 2014 website has all the details. Tickets have now sold out but there is a waitlist. Please add your name if you would like to attend.

We are looking for people to help out and get involved. If you would to like to help organise, present, run a BOF/sprint or act as a mentor/helper please contact the organizers.

Serious optimism speaking

Serious optimism speaking here - what are the odds of arranging some sort of creche to contain children in during sessions?

I'm sure if there's enough families coming we could band together and pay for a babysitter for the weekend.

Otherwise I'm just going to sit and look jealous at other drupallers at this event :(

Kiddies

If there are enough families, what about people take turns/roster running some activities to keep the kids entertained.

I for one would prefer to spend some time with my kids, if I/we do happen to go.

Could be fun for everyone

I'd be totally down for that.

I'd be totally down for that. Also can throw a teenager who won't change nappies into the mix who is good at entertaining kids :)

Quite tempting… But I'm

Quite tempting… But I'm moving OS the week after, so will see if I can manage it!

I'm out

Actually read the venue details - large single room. Really not family friendly :(

Oh well. Enjoy yourselves and don't forget to post lots of photos for those of us missing out.

Family rooms

Hi RumpledElf. I know that there will be a few families up there with kids ranging from 2 through to 7 and maybe more. They won't be in the actual room whilst the event is taking place though. My note about the venue having family rooms was just a heads up to those people who wanted to make a bit more of a weekend of it and take the family as well. ie. the accommodation at the YHA is not just dorm rooms.

Yeah, I'm still out though.

Yeah, I'm still out though. Which is frustrating because I'd really really like to go.

Five scholarship places available

murrayw's picture

There are now five scholarship places available for students, unemployed and those struggling to pay the cost. A scholarship includes entry to both days and accommodation as well. All you have to pay is the train ticket there. If you would like to apply for one please go to the event page for instructions.

Also ticket sales close at the end next week (5 days away). This is so we can get the shirts printed up and to let the venue know of final numbers. Please grab your ticket this week if you intend on going.
