SCHEDULE CHANGE, WE MEET THE FIRST THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH AT MCDONALDS.
The High Desert Drupal group meets the first Thursday of every month. This local group is a nice place for people to learn and talk about Drupal, a world popular content management system (CMS). We also talk about web development in general, covering all aspects from planning, design, development, and maintaining a web site. RSVP is not required and attendance is free. Tell all your friends!
What are we going to talk about?
Panels Module
The Panels module allows a site administrator to create customized layouts for multiple uses. At its core it is a drag and drop content manager that lets you visually design a layout and place content within that layout. Integration with other systems allows you to create nodes that use this, landing pages that use this, and even override system pages such as taxonomy and the node page so that you can customize the layout of your site with very fine grained permissions.
This month the Tom Friedhof, Helior Colorado, and Jon Roberts will be sharing their collective experience on the Panels module based on how we've used the Panels module on recent projects we've been involved with at ActiveLAMP.

What is coming in Drupal 7?
Helior will be sharing with us what to look forward to in Drupal 7. With an alpha release scheduled for Drupal 7 this month, it's time to ramp up and start to take really close look at Drupal 7.

Community Time / Lightning Talks
After Helior's presentation we'll open up the floor to the community where anyone can talk about anything technology related. Do you have anything cool you want to share with the community this month? Did you play with any new technologies this month, it doesn't have to be Drupal? Lets rally up the community this month and allow everyone to share what they've been working on.
Please spend some time over the next week to think about what you want to share at the group, and then post a comment to this thread to let us know what you're thinking about talking about.

We are meeting in the McDonalds conference room at the Apple Valley McDonalds on the corner of Apple Valley Rd and Bear Valley Rd. The room seats up to 49 people and is free to use.
If you plan on attending, sign up for an account on this site and then click the "Sign Up" button below to let us know you're coming. You DO NOT have to sign up on this site to attend, you can just show up. If you do sign up, you'll be emailed a reminder for the meeting on one day before the meeting.

as they say, i'll be there "the good Lord willin and the crick don't rise..."
I would tell my friends but most of them think I am weird and boring for liking this stuff and/or live remotely, (i just moved up here). The one friend i mentioned at the meeting who is starting her pol site this month lives in elsinore and since we are both currently unemployed, well gas is high and money is tight. that of course is subject to change b4 then so "we'll see"?
