Enviro Commons (prototype built with Drupal 6) is a national platform to address the climate crisis by working together. With tools and functionality on 4 Dashboards - for individuals, business, non-profits and governments - the platform is designed as a network solution to address the barriers local and small initiatives cannot. The climate crisis is a big problem that requires a big solution. Here are some examples of existing functionality of the platform:
- The sense of powerlessness to impact and to influence governments, businesses and each other is addressed.
- People feel overwhelmed by the complexity and don't know what to do and where to start so the ways to participate and simple, fit our lifestyles and exist across the range of our lives (work, home and play).
- We cannot see what others are doing so it can appear like little is happening so the site includes a heartbeat and exposes metrics and public profiles.
- Small and medium sized business don't have simple sustainability action tools so this is included.
- Large corporate don't have easy and simple ways to involve a large number of their staff in their sustainability action so this is available here.
- Business profiles are geared towards people being able to determine if they are "earning their social license to operate".
- Governments don't have a large-scale, public, out-of-the-box collaboration tool with the public
Enviro Commons is a prototype and more than 95% ready. As a MaRS client, I have been advised to find a partner who can help me with the following:
A. Create videos.
B. Improve the look of the site (I'm a programmer, not a designer!)
C. I need someone to help with some of the last bits of the functionality such as set up a dev environment, ubercart setup, responsive design needs.
D. Deeper knowledge on some of the sustainability plans and government tools.
E. Performance tuning.
As a social enterprise with 3 income streams, it's a viable model for being replicated in other countries so distribution knowledge is helpful.
