User Group Meetings

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Just found this group, and glad to see it was originally organized by the Ubercart guys.

I'd like to use this as jumping off point to start more regular face-to-face gatherings around the Louisville area for Drupal users and people who want to learn about Drupal.

My company would even be willing to sponsor such events. I'm the Director of Application Development at V-Soft Consulting, but I'm a web architect at heart and have been using Drupal for almost 2 years now. My latest personal project was www.crowdedtext.com.

Does anyone here have any interest in this type of thing? What would you like to see happen at these events, other than networking?

Thanks!

You Asked: Does anyone here have any interest in this type of thing?
I DO and I suspect others do as well. [4giv my enthusiasm... this post got kinda long]

Let's do it! Odds are good that I could make the trip down. I'm in Indy but I'm hitting quite a few meetups, camps, and fests this year.
I started the Indy Drupal Users Group 2 years ago this month. We were meeting once a month then demand rose so we went to twice a month. It finally slowed down and now we pretty much meet quarterly for Drupal HackFests. We cross post our events here, so look around for more info on the Drupal HackFests. We're trying our 1st DrupalDinner this month. If you like food nearly as much as you like Drupal then make the long haul and supp with us! ;-)

So Matt [aka jazzdrive3] you want to see some local meetings?
Here's my humble recommendation:
1] Pick a venue, a date, and a time and run with it. {I tried asking the group which days were better, which times were better, which part of town was better. Have you ever pulled teeth?} :-)
2] Start a meetup.com acct [very small fee] This will let the world know that there is a Drupal meetup happening.
3] Place an ad on craigslist. That's how I found the local PHP meetup group
4] Print up some simple [or not so simple if u have skillz] 1/2 page fliers and get permission to post at paneras, starbucks, barnes&noble, and borders. mom and pop coffee shops often have places for announcements as well.

ok.... That sounds like a full time job, I know. Do a smuch or as little as you feel like and maybe even solicit help.
Step one should have been Post an Event on This Group. :-) There are 34 members of this group. If a handful will register then you already have more ppl at your 1st meeting than I did. Mine had ME and 1 other guy! He knew a lil about Drupal and was actually more of a joomla fan. Today he is a partner in the only Indianapolis Drupal Firm! [there are many individuals but I know of no other organizations]
Alright.. I'm rambling now....
Matt, get something together. [date, place, time] you can go for the usual 2 to 2.5 hrs meetup OR jump out of the gate with a 4hr HackFest style meeting if you like. Either way, if no one local steps up to present, I'd be happy to deliver a session or 2 or 3. CCK/Views, Drupal Intro, module development, theming, what ever is needed. I may be able to drag some other INDY folk with me and they can present as well.

The balls in your court bro. Let me know what I can do for you! And be sure to join the http://groups.drupal.org/local-user-group-organizers if indeed you're wanting to take a leadership role in the group. :-)

Thanks for the enthusiasm.

I'm working on getting something together right now, and I'll let everyone know any details.

Thanks!
